CHAPTER 16

I covered my ears with my hands blocking Tania and Ashley’s voice. They’re squealing-scratch that-NEVER stop squealing like retards after I told them everything that happened last night. And the rose.

“why is it green again?” Ashley asked regaining herself.

“I dunno.”

“oh, I remember. I read before in uh- somewhere in the internet that the color of roses means something. You should check it out.” Tania suggested.

“Smart. But I think it’s nothing though. He’s just weird in his own ways.” I shrugged.

She was about to answer but the bell rung as a sign of my death. Kidding. Lunch is over so that means it’s PE time. Meaning again, I have to see that..that.. ugh. Mr. Hayden AGAIN.

***

“He’s so cute!”

“How I wish he wasn’t a teacher”

“He’s hot”

“Does he have a girlfriend?”

“Tyler has a competition.”

That last sentence caught my attention. I turned to look to the one who said it and I saw Jesse who was in the same batch as mine. Yep. They were talking about Ky-Mr. Hayden. They were still gushing about him.

“Girls.” Chuck commented as if reading my thoughts.

“Boys.” I countered.

“What about us?”

“You’re just jealous because you don’t have their attention anymore.” I teased causing him to put like a kid.

“Of course not!” Chuck defended with a puff of his chest.

“Whatever Chucky.”

“Or maybe you’re the one who’s jealous.” He raised his eyebrows at me. Just as I was about to open my mouth to retort, our teacher came in the gym causing all eyes to focus on him, including me. He glanced at me and smiled but I lowered my gaze and turned to Chuck who on earth-knows-how noticed also. He smile reassuringly at me and I gave one back as he patted me on my back.

“Okay, class.” He started. “I guess some of you knows me already. But once again, I’m Kyle Hayden but you have to call me Mr. Hayden.”

“I would have never guessed.” I muttered to Chuck which caused him to laugh a little bit loud that I have to nudge him on his ribs.

“The monster might hear us, so shush.” I continued and he laughed quietly.

“So today, we’re gonna play badminton doubles. Choose your partners. It can be a boy or a girl.” He continued.

“Aww too bad it’s not basketball. You can trip him next time for me, okay?” I whispered to Chuck and earned a shake of head and laugh as a response.

“you’re such a brat” he giggled. Yes, giggled. He’s not gay though.

“Okay, do your business. You can practice first.” He said while clapping his hands.

“Retarded seal” I muttered but I guess Chuck heard it. And that’s when he lost it. He burst into giggles at first but afterwards he was now laughing hysterically. Nerd.

I didn’t notice we were laughing so loud until I saw Mr. Hayden raising his one brow to us. I covered my mouth to stop but the oblivious Chuck didn’t so I had to slap him on his arms. He turned his head to look at me innocently but when he saw Mr. Hayden, he stopped immediately and lowered his head.

“is there something funny, Mr. Bailey and Ms. Cooper?” All eyes are on us now. Great.

“Nothing. Sorry Mr. Hayden.” Chuck apologized for us.

“Ms. Cooper?” My heart exploded in my chest just hearing him say my name. I tried my best to ignore him and avoided his gaze.

“Are you ignoring me, Ms. Cooper?”

“N-no. it’s just, uh.. N-Nothing… “ I stuttered. I mentally slapped my face for that.

“Okay! Go with your partners now!” he turned to the class I sighed in relief and looked at Chuck.

“Someone’s jealous.” Chuck teased.

“He is not!” I defended.

“Oh, but I didn’t mention any name, Van.” Chuck cocked his eyebrow and smiled evilly. I felt my face warmed up causing him to laugh and a scowl from me.

“Mr. Bailey and Ms. Cooper?” I heard him called our names cueing for our turn. We walked towards the net slapping each other’s back with our rackets playfully. I giggled in triumph when I saw Chuck winced when I got to pat him harder.

“Brat.” Chuck acted mad but failed when he, too, laughed. “Let’s see what you got on your sleeves.”

“I hate to admit it, but I’m not good in badminton.” I said truthfully. Sometimes I can’t even hit the shuttle cock.. I missed it a lot of times.

“I should’ve known.” He teased acting regretful.

“Hey! I’m a volleyball player not a badminton one.”

“Whatever you say, Vanessa.”

“Chucky.” I laughed at Chuck’s expression as he stood there shocked. I must’ve said it loudly because I heard a few giggles coming from both boys and girls.

“You didn’t-”

“Oh, I did.” I said mockingly. Just as he was about to counter, the monster cut us off.

“Okay, cut it out kids. Let’s start.” I made a face to no one in particular, sticking out my tongue but immediately regretted it after seeing Mr. Hayden’s lips twitch upward a li’l bit. Oh, he knows me too well. Childish sometimes.

Then the game started.
