CHAPTER 11

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What was that?! Okay. I have to know.

“Hey, what’s that all about?” I asked Leah while walking home. The weather’s weird tonight. It’s so cold but good thing I have my sweatshirt so I got it in my bag and gave it to Leah. “Here. Wear this first before you answer me. You’ll get cold.” I offered as I put it on her and she wears it.

“Now tell me.” I demanded and smiled at her as we continued to walk and held her hand to keep her warm. She tensed and I can feel she got nervous as she tried not to look at me.

“Okay, you little kid. What did you do now? Tell me.” She bit her lip trying to hold back what she was supposed to say but then she got over it quickly.

“No, I won’t. I promised already to Big Sister Vanessa.” She refused as she looked at e then stuck her tongue out at me. Big sister huh?  Leah can be so cute but can also be naughty sometimes.

“Oh, puh-leasee?” I pleaded as I batted my eyelashes at her trying to make cute faces. Then I pouted.

She laughed heartily and I frowned in confusion. “Oh Big Brother. Don’t ever do that again. You’re not cute, you’re so scary with that face.” She teased and laughed with her toothless smile. Oh great. That’s it.

I looked around and I saw that we’re already about 30 meters from our house. Then I looked at Leah who was smiling.

“Okaay. You started it. Now save your life and run!” was her only warning from me as I lunged towards her threatening her as I reached her both sides with my hands. Her eyes widened knowing what I was planning to do and she started to run towards our house laughing and screaming too loud for me to laugh but not too loud for our neighbors to get mad.

I chuckled and I run trying to catch her. She dodge and to left then to the right trying to escape but I’m faster than her with those two little and thin legs so I caught her easily as soon as we got to our door. I tickled her while we went inside the house.

“Stop it!!” she managed to say between her laughs.

“No. it’s unfair! Tell me first or I won’t stop.”

“Noo. Stop it!” we both laugh just as Tim walked in making us both to stop.

“What did I miss?” he smirked.

“Nothing!” Leah and I both said in unison and looked at each other. Then we burst out laughing. We caught Tim pouting that made us laugh even harder.

“You guys arte so unfair. I’m jealous now.” He pouted again but then he laughed along too and Leah took the chance to run and asked help form Tim. He carried her and they hugged each other. Leah looked at me then stuck her tongue out at me. I laughed and smiled at them. We’re like totally glued to each other. Oh how I love my family.

VAN’S POV

“… Now I know why my brother Tyler loves you…”

My brother Tyler loves you.

Tyler loves you.

Tyler loves me?! Cut the crap Vanessa Cooper. No, he doesn’t you idiot. Stop thinking about it. Stop thinking about him.

But what if? The way he acts sometimes. But he’s a flirt, right? Ugh! Stop it!

I flopped my head on the pillow then turned my head to the left and tried not to think of what Leah said. My birthday’s coming soon. What can we do?

I can see the sun was shining bright because the curtains were put on both sides of the window. What’s up today? Right! It’s my eighteenth birthday!!

“Vanessaaa!” I heard my mom calling me. “Get down and eat you sleepyhead!” I heard her chuckled. Oh mom, how I love you this much.

I got up from my bed and went downstairs to eat but I saw no one in there.

“Mom?” I called out but there’s no response. I looked everywhere but no one else was in there except me.

My heart raced so fast and I’m really starting to get scared. I want to cry and I can feel the tears forming in my eyes but I held it back. No. it’s my birthday and I shouldn’t cry.

“Mom!” I called again but my voice cracked in the end and I felt a lump in my throat. I swallowed hard and tried to calm down. “if this is a birthday surprise or something, cut the crap off or-“

*KNOCK KNOCK*

I stopped as soon as I heard the knock from the door and ran towards it. I opened the door and started to laugh, “Mom! You scared-”

I stopped and no words came out from my mouth seeing him in front of our door. I gasped as my heart beat so fast and loud that I thought he could hear it. I tried to speak but I can’t. I just stood there as tears started to roll down on my cheeks non-stop.

“Happy 18th birthday, Vanessa.” He uttered thoughtfully with a smile on his face. “I’ve got you a surprise.” He knelt down as he pulled out a small silver box and opened it.

There I saw that beautiful familiar ring that he gave to me before. “I still love you.” He said as he smiled at me. I’m speechless and just stood there crying. I have been waiting for this time. I missed him so much and now he’s back.

I opened my mouth and the only word that came out was, “Kyle-”

Then I started to cry again. I couldn’t help but cry. He reached for me saying comforting things to my ear, “Sshh. It’s okay. Don’t cry.”

“Are you okay? Oh please, don’t cry.”

“Van?”

“Van?! Wake up!”

“Van!”

I started to open my eyes and I saw his blue eyes. “Tyler!” I hugged him tightly as I got up and cried. That was a bad dream. A nightmare. I didn’t realize I fell asleep.

“Are you okay?” I shook my head honestly and he hugged me again. He makes me feel that I’m safe when he’s there. When I’m in his arms.

He held me close as he comforts me. “It’s okay. I’m here now. No one could hurt you.”

He held me for a minute and he pulled away. “What happened?” he asked with a concerned look.

“It was just.. uh.. a bad dream.” I mumbled as I wipe my tears on my cheeks.

He lifted my chin and I was forced to look directly into his eyes. It was full of worries, deep care, and.. love?

“Bad dreams don’t happen. Well, sometimes. But don’t worry. I’m here. I am here. I will protect you and I won’t let anyone hurt you. That, I promise.” He said truthfully pulling me into him again.

“Thank you, Ty. For everything.” I whispered into his ear as I hugged him back.

“Are you okay now?”

“Yeah.” I smiled a little and pulled away. “Thanks.”

“Well,” he started to say as he got up form my bed. “We still have school unless you want to rest?”

I shook my head. “No. I’m good. I’ll just take a bath. You go downstairs and eat. Don’t wait for me.”

“Okay.” He nodded and kissed me on my forehead. “Everything will be okay.” He smiled and walked outside my door. Then I was all alone. Again. But I smiled to myself of what Tyler did. He’s there. He’s there by my side when I needed him. I couldn’t have been more thankful.

I got up from my bed and stepped inside the bathroom. I hope he’s right. Everything would be okay. If he’s there, I have nothing to worry about. Everything will be fine.
