CHAPTER 1

“ Vanessa! Aren’t you coming down? You’ve been up there for like 4 hours. “ mom said as loudly as she can. It’s not like I’m here for about 4 hours already. Neither 3 hours. Whatever.

“ Exaggeraaaaaaating!!” ugh. I hope this won’t take too long.

“Come on! They’ll be arriving at the airport at 1:00!”

I looked up at the clock, 12:48. Great. It would only take almost 10 minutes to get there or maybe less than 15 minutes.

“I’m done! Give me 10 sec!” I looked at myself in the mirror, put waves on my hazel-colored hair and went downstairs.

“Finally! “Mom said as if she has been waiting for ages. “ I thought you would never really go down. By the way, you look good. I can’t wait to see Tyler’s reaction when he sees you.” My mom teased.

“ Mom, aren’t you too old for that?” I rolled my eyes at her.

“ Just telling the truth, honey.” she said while smiling and then she giggled.

Oh mom….

Tyler was my quote and unquote, “childhood friend”. I can’t remember though some of our childhood memories. Well, see all I remember is some of our pranks and that he’s my only childhood friend ‘cause our brother and sister have their own lives. I have no choice and we’re neighbors back then until they moved to Miami. I also remember the times that I was so shy to talk to him because whenever he talks to me, he always teases me and I hate it.

And now, they’re going back here in New York and maybe stay here again for good. My mom insisted me to come along because they want a reunion thing. They got very excited about it and my parents planned that they’ll welcome our so-called ‘old neighbors’ exactly right there at the airport.

We arrived at the airport almost 1:30. Traffic. A little bit. Was it my fault? Pfft.

We walk towards the departure area and just then I saw mom smiled widely and when I looked at her eyes’ direction, there I saw Mr. and Mrs. Griffin, Leah(their youngest daughter-about 3 to 4 years of age) and of course Tyler Griffin. He became so tall and must’ve worked out. Great body. He’s wearing pants and polo but the sleeves fit to his biceps showing off his muscles. Wow. Not that I’m observing him. Light brown skin, and hazel-colored hair. Sort of. Oh and there was Tim Griffin buying an ice cream. He hasn’t changed at all, he’s so childish but in a cute way.

We exchanged hugs, kisses, and ‘how are you’s’ and dad helped them with their luggage.

“ I’m sorry we’re late. Blame it on Vanessa. It took her almost 4 hours to fix herself. She really put an effort to this.” Mom said as she giggled and the others laughed. I felt my face warmed up because of embarrassment.

Irritated, I said, “ Mom, I said I’m sorry for about umpteenth time. And no. I didn’t. I’m not like that. And mom, I said it’s not 4 hours. Why are you always exaggerating things?”

“ Geez, sorry Van. “ mom apologized but then she still laughed.

Being waked up by someone so early in the morning isn’t good. Or maybe just for me. Worst part is, it would really ruin my morning and sometimes my whole day.
