The Next Morning

Dynasty P.O.V

I tossed and turned all night long. I cried, I prayed. I even sung a couple hymns my grandmother used to sing.

I stayed on the phone with my mother for hours just hoping that somehow she could make it all stop before it even starts.

But it was no use.

Life as I know it is over. I gotta admit, I don't know what to expect so I'm scared as hell. Everything around me is about to change.

It's no secret, I've been a lot of places in my lifetime. I've seen a lot of things, I've done a lot of things. No doubt, I survived a lot of things. I'm a big girl, I handles mine. But this, it just feels so much bigger than me.

But ready or not, it's happening.

I sat in the V.I.P lounge of the attorneys office waiting for my name to be called.

I picked at my fresh acrylic set holding back tears that I thought were finished last night.

" They was all out of everfresh so I just gotchu a Fiji." Ronnie handed me the cold bottle of water, retrieving his seat at my side.

"Thank you." I say, barely even looking at him.

He sighed.

"Baby, I'm not really sure what this is all about. I just know it's something big to you, so I wanted to be by your side. But if it makes you uncomfortable, I can just wait outside." He said about to get up.

I wiped away a tear I never seen fall.

"No," I stop him. "Don't go. This is heavy. And if you can stand it, I'm really gonna need you." I admit.

I never thought I would even have to face this kind of music. But I am. So I just hope that Ronnie can take the heat.

My thoughts were interrupted by an office assistant.

"Dynasty,"

"That's me." I stood.

She smiled.

"Patricia's ready for you now." She said stepping aside to let us by.

I could feel the walls closing in on me as we walked the long hall hand in hand.

For some reason, it just felt like, you know; a walk of shame.

"Here you are."

We stopped at the open glass door.

"Yeah, she just got in," Patricia waved us into her office while still tending to a phone call. "Yeah. I need any new information you get. Thank you." She said hanging up.

I immediately grabbed a tissue from her desk.

No matter how bad I wanted to be able to handle this, I just can't seem to stomach it.

We all sighed before she spoke.

"GoodMorning." She greeted us with a smile.

"Morning." I say just above a whisper.

"GoodMorning." Ronnie adds.

"I'm Patricia Caldwell, I've been the Romiti Family's attorney and consultant for many many years." She introduced herself, shaking Ronnie's extended hand.
