Hogwarts Fanfiction: The Beginning

CHAPTER TWENTY THREE

Grace, Zoey, and Lilian got into a boat, ready to travel across the lake. Zoey was very scared to get sorted, she had to be in Hufflepuff, or else her mum would be mad. Grace was also scared, she wanted to be in the same house that Zoey was in, because Zoey was her first and only friend.

They reached the boat house, and got out of the boat they were in. They trailed after the other first years and went up the stairs to the Great Hall.

All the first years went into the Great Hall, looking nervous. Headmistress McGonagall came up and said: "Welcome to a new year at Hogwarts! Before we begin our banquet, I would like to say a few words. To all years, the forbidden forest, is well, forbidden. Don't go in there unless you want to meet your untimely death."

Grace started grinding her teeth. Untimely death?!, she thought. She did not want that to happen.

Lilian didn't look the least bit afraid. Zoey decided to ask Lilian about that later.

Zoey was kind of scared, but her mum told her not to worry. Her words where You will be safe if you don't go in there, and you're a Hufflepuff. Zoey could tell Grace was worried. She silently repeated the words to Grace. She didn't think it worked though.

"And now it's time for the sorting ceremony," Professor McGonagall said, "First up, Harold Greenburg?"

A blonde-haired boy stepped up and sat down on a stool. McGonagall placed the sorting hat on his head.

"Gryffindor!" The hat said.

The Gryffindor table cheered as Harold walked down and sat with them.

"Grace Goodwin!"

Grace walked up and sat on the stool. McGonagall placed the hat on her head.

"Ravenclaw!"

The Ravenclaw table cheered, and Grace slump-walked down to sit with them.

"Lilian Hwu!"

Lilian pulled her hood down as far as it could go and walked up to the stool. When she sat down, the hat was placed on her head.

"Slytherin!"

The Slytherin table cheered as Lilian sat down with them.

Student by student, Zoey's name was approaching. She was getting more nervous by the minute until she heard McGonagall say her name.

"Zoey Shield,"

Zoey walked up to the stool and sat on it. She was practically shaking. She had to be sorted into Hufflepuff. The hat was placed on her head.

"Ravenclaw!"

She burst into tears. Her mother would send her to France because she got put in Ravenclaw. She wanted to run to her dorm – which wouldn't even be a Hufflepuff one!
