Penelope was sitting on a bench in the courtyard. She was trying to master a leaping potion so she could get out of detention this Thursday. Nora and Addie were with her.

"Ugh. I hate this stupid potion!" Penelope said, frustrated, as she tipped over her cauldron.

"I would help, but Professor Snape is over on the other side of the courtyard," Adelaide said as she pointed her finger at Snape sitting on a bench.

Penelope looked. Snape had a piece of parchment and a quill. He was watching Penelope and her treacherous potion-making. He was taking notes. This made Penelope stressed. She started grinding her teeth as she put her cauldron back upright and cleaned up her mess.

She tried many times but couldn't get the potion right. Before she could try again for the millionth time, the clock tower rang for dinner. She collected all of her things, and Nora and Addie followed her to the Great Hall.
