“How are you dealing sweet?” The women I had still yet to know her name asked as I finished up the big breakfast she had just given me.
“I’m better thank you,” I told her truly grateful about her kindness she was showing me, there wasn’t many people like that left in this world.
The women smiled at me brightly and then sat down opposite me. “Are you planning to go back?” She asked which brought painful memories back.
I looked away shyly as tears started to flood my eyes. The women placed her hand top of mine and I met her eyes again. “It’s fine, you don’t have to go back if you don’t want to, you can stay with you for as long as you like,” She said and I wiped away my tears and gave her my best try of a smile.
“Thank you,” I said to her and she gave a laugh.
“Stop saying thank you all the time, I’m doing this because I want to, now let’s get you washed up, I live upstairs with my granddaughter and my grandson, oh and how silly of me, I’m Valarie but you can call me Val,” She introduced herself and got up waiting for me to do the same.
“I’m Lauren but please call me Ren,” I told her and she laughed.
“Will do, now you coming?” She asked and I nodded. She led me through kitchen and to the back of the cafe where there were a flight of stairs going up.
“Do you have a husband?” I asked feeling a bit nosey for asking but when she mentioned her grandchildren and not a husband, it got me wondering.
“I did, he died in a car crash along with my children, that’s why Marci and Chad live with me, my grandchildren,” She said as we walked up the stairs.
“I’m sorry,” I said guilty that I had brought it up as we reached the top of the stairs. She smiled at me with her sad expression and shrugged.
“Don’t be, they are in a better place, away from this hateful world,” She said quickly touching the wooden door frame for reassurance.
I smiled at her and then followed her into her living room. Her living room was painted in a light cream paint and a soft brown carpet with two people about my age sitting on the cream leather sofa’s staring at the t.v hung on the wall.
“Hey Grandma,” The girl welcomed getting up from the sofa and hugging her grandmother lightly. The boy that remained sitting reached for the remote and turned off the t.v before doing the same.
Once they spotted me I couldn’t help but back away feeling a little intimated by their stares.
“Marci, Chad, this is Ren, she will be staying with us for a bit,” Val introduced me as I just stood there watching silently as their faces changed into a happy expression.
“Hey Ren,” Marci greeted cheerfully and I felt myself relax and a little smile spread across my face as I took the time to take in her appearance.
She had long curly brown hair and green eyes, although her green eyes did have a little bit of blue hidden within them. She was well skinny almost anorexia with little dimples on the side of her cheek, she was very pretty for a human.
I moved my eyes over to Chad who hadn’t said anything to me yet, he was just staring at me in shock and a little bit of awe. Chad unlike his sister had blonde hair and blue eyes but had a little hint of green in them to. You could tell they were related even if they didn’t have the same hair colour or eyes, they both had the same nose and dimples on their cheeks.
Marci looked over to her brother and frowned. She nudged him and he seemed to snap out of his trance he was in and gave me a smile.
“Hey, make yourself home,” He said kindly and I returned his smile.
“So then, Marci, Chad why don’t you go around and show Ren her room?” Val suggested and Marci nodded eagerly while Chad just shrugged.
Marci skipped over to my side and grabbed my hand before she practically dragged me out of the living room and into the hallway, Chad shortly following behind.
“So what happened to you?” Marci asked as we came in front of a door. I looked at her confused.
“What do you mean?” I asked and she pointed to my bare feet and lack of clothing. I coughed awkwardly not knowing what to say.
“I ran away,” I told her bluntly, she frowned and Chad laughed.
“If you were going to run away wouldn’t of you like packed something?” Marci asked being nosey and I shrugged.
“Heat of the moment,” I said brushing it off which caused Marci to frown even more from the unsatisfying amount of information about myself.
“So you ran away, with no money or clothes,” Chad laughed shaking his head. I looked over to him with a confused look wondering what was so funny.
“It wasn’t exactly planned,” I said through clench teeth and his eyes flickered with fear for a second.
“So what happened?” Marci asked again as I couldn’t help but want to tell her to mind her own business, her nosiness was getting on my nerves.
“Does it matter?” I snapped and Marci and Chad took a step back weary about what I would do if I was to get angry.
“N-no, I mean don’t you have any friends back at home?” Chad asked getting closer to his sister protectively.
I didn’t have any friends at home expect Jay and his only friends were Harrison, Graham, Kyle and Connor. I mean they couldn’t help me could they?
They could. My wolf said with hope.
What could a bunch of human’s do against a group of warlocks? I asked sighing.
More than a single pregnant wolf, She growled and I couldn’t blame her for her anger, we both wanted our mate back as well as our pack.
I wouldn’t sentence innocent people to death, they don’t even know about us. I told her and she growled.
It’s the best we’ve got.
