Kylo was due to land in New York in just under an hour. You thought about him a lot, hoping that he would make it safely. You didn't tell him, but you got really triggered when people you cared flew. The last time you saw your dad, it was at an airport. His smiling face told you goodbye as he walked down the hall and through TSA screening. You never saw him again after he disappeared around the corner.
You weren't going to do it, you told yourself you wouldn't, but it was slow at the bar, and you were already on your phone.
You : Hey, I know you can't text on the plane, but please shoot me a message when you land. I just want to make sure you're safe.
You locked your phone, sliding it back into your back right pocket. But to your surprise, it dinged. You took it back out, reading the new text.
Kylo : I can text on the plane. Wifi.
You : You pay for the Wifi on planes? Man, you are rich, huh?
You leaned across the bar, waiting for his reply.
Kylo : It's twenty dollars.
You : That's a fortune when you can just wait a few hours for free.
Kylo : Well, I like to play Uno on my flights.
You : Kylo Ren plays online phone app Uno? That's hilarious.
Kylo : It's a game of strategy.
You were smiling like an idiot at your screen.
You : Well, I'll let you get back to your riveting game of Uno. Please text me when you land, though.
Kylo : Of course.
You put your phone down on the bar top, noticing some folks walking into the establishment.
One of those folks was Katelyn.
You nearly groaned out loud, but you had to be professional. Maude was right there, and you didn't want to make a scene, because Maude knew exactly who Katelyn was. She just didn't know her face.
But, of course, Katelyn would complicate that.
"Oh, hey there," she said your name, condescension rampant. She walked up to the bar, sitting right in front of you. "I didn't know you worked here."
"Yep. For almost five years. I made an entire documentary talking about it sophomore year. You watched it," you reminded her.
"Oh. I guess it was easy to forget," she smiled a sinister grin. "Can I get a Purple Haze?"
"Coming right up," you lazily stood, bending down to grab the beer from the mini fridge below the shelves of liquor. As you were bent over, you heard your phone ding, signaling a text.
"Oh," you heard Katelyn say with dramatic surprise. "Oh, you got a text."
You turned around to see her looking at your screen, a knowing look on her face.
"You text Professor Ren?" She tilted her head, her wicked smile indicating that she had hit the jackpot on detrimental information about you.
"About school," you said while snatching the phone off the bar and tucking it away in your pocket.
"Well, I can certainly say I've never texted him," she turned back to her posse. "Have any of you texted him?"
They all shook their heads, giggling with her.
"That seems a little inappropriate, don't you think?" Katelyn titled her head.
You looked at her for a moment, your jaw tight. You were considering your next words, not wanting to cause a scene.
