Traveling through the forest at night was very dangerous for two infants, not mentioning all the monsters that stalk you down (Or as Martyn say, 'beasties'). They were both starving and cold, the young spirit's toes were probably blue at this point, but they kept moving to find a place to stay.
Martyn was trying to help Yakul through the torturous routes of the foreign forest, stumbling over every now and then followed by a small sneeze. His whole form was shivering, small droplets of icy cold water being shaken off his already pale skin. Luckily he hadn't caught hypothermia yet, but that was only a matter of time...
"Little prince..."
Martyn stopped dead in his tracks, whipping his head from side to side to find the source of thee mysterious voice. He shook his head and carried on helping Yakul to safety... Wherever that was...
"Let us guide you young one"
Now this made the prince terrified, but he stood up straight and tried to speak with bravery and confidence.
"W-where are you?..." he managed to squeak out loudly, holding Yakul close, who was also shaking.
"Follow us, we will protect you and lead you to safety"
The ground suddenly started to rumble and shake, causing Yakul to fall to the ground and letting out a cry of pain. Martyn fell down beside the deer from shock, looking ahead to see small tree like creature emerging from the ground. Martyn stared in shock, slightly scared and in slight pain from the sudden fall, at the three tree creatures that seemed to have faces, however they were very well blended into its skin.
"Follow our children to Mother, child."
"Mother will nurse you to health."
"W-what do you mean?"
"You will be safe with the great one"
Martyn's body was trembling and his eyes never left the small tree creatures before him, each one slowly making their way over to him. Once they reached him, they started to push against his legs, trying to get him to go forward, and he couldn't help but to do so.He held on to Yakul gently and they slowly walked deeper into the forest.
It didn't seem as though the forest was deadly the deeper you went, or even remotely dangerous, it all just seemed calm and faint whispers could be heard as the trees swayed in the wind when the nature spirit walked past. It was kind of creepy, but Martyn suddenly felt a breath of warmth over take his and Yakul's frozen body. His skin turned back to it's tan color and his toes were no longer blue, thankfully.
When they reached a large clearing, the nature spirit gasped at the tree that stood before them. An abnormally large oak tree stood right in the center, strange wooden charms hanging from some of the branches that made a calming sound when the wind blew through them. It's leaves were a dark shade of green, however the gleamed brightly, the bark looked rough and jagged, but in reality it was as smooth as a human's skin. There were whispers being passed around by the wind, some of them more kind and calm then others, which were scared and confused. The great oak tree seemed to have a light green aurora of soothing magic, which to Martyn felt the same as when he did that thing with the vine when saving Yakul.
"Hello, young prince. I see you are very far away from your kingdom. Why is that?"
A great and powerful voice spoke to him, but sending waves of calming and relaxation through him.
He gulped, figuring the tree was the one that was speaking to him.
"M-my kingdom and fawmily w-were destwoyed by reficules...." he spoke back, trying his best not to brake down at the name of his parents.
"Don't worry little one, it's okay to cry. We'll protect you from anything that comes to harm you."
After that, a large vine erupted from the ground, slowly moving it's way over to Martyn like a snake, who backed away slightly only to be stopped by Yakul. The small creatures were using some sort of magic to heal his leg and cuts all over his body and all Martyn could do is stare in awe at the green glow.
Suddenly, a smooth surface touched Martyn's cheek and he looked back to see the vine there. He whimpered, tears threatening to fall.
"It's okay to cry"
He broke.
