Ok, I got this.I just had to add this, and curve that, and apply a brush of that, and grab a bunch of wipes to remove all of it – again.
‘And then you apply a stroke of eyeliner…’
“Easy for you to say,” I snapped frustratedly at the girl in the video. This was like the millionth makeup video I was watching today, and I had succeeded in following along with none.
To be fair, it's easy to make it look easy when you had mastery of what you were doing, or at least a mastery of how to use your hands – of which I had neither. The eyeliner which I'd nearly drawn to my ears was proof of that.
But to be fair, I applied it on my eyes this time, and not poke it inside my eyes as I'd done the last hundred times.
Even I had to admit it to myself – I sucked at this makeup thing. It's been over an hour and the only thing I'd achieved so far, was filling the waste bin with ruined wipes.
But on the bright side, I could start a career as a makeup artist for horror movie characters, because I sure looked like one myself.
But seriously, how could my makeup skills not improve since middle school?
Well, yeah, I wasn't always the most enthusiastic about makeup and stuff. Still, I cared to try like three or four times...a year.
Ok, yeah, I really sucked. I mean, the fact that my prom makeup was done by my mom pretty much says it all.
Still, for some reason, I thought I'd be able to summon my non-existent beauty prowess today. And by 'some reason,' I meant Aiden's grandma's birthday.
Yes, that was today.
You know, when Aiden first mentioned that his grandma was having a birthday party, I envisioned a small, simple, sitting room gathering with a cake and a few balloons thrown in here and there.
But judging by the troops of people who'd been working tirelessly downstairs at transforming the house into an even fancier version of itself, I was beginning to see that this party was going to be anything but simple.
And it was confirmed when Aiden stepped out an hour ago to go 'pick his tux.' Well, that was after another interesting conversation with his grandma, with her throwing in words like: ‘you can at least try to look the part. How hard is it to pretend in front of our guests that you care about me?’
You know, just the usual kind of thing that every grandma hoped for – putting up an act in front of guests.
Anyway, what followed were even more interesting replies from Aiden which pretty much summed up to: ‘I could care less.’
But a few minutes more of 'fun' conversation between him and his grandma, and lots of pleading from Kara later, he left to get the tux.
So, I was alone, the party was about to start in a few minutes, and I looked like the creepy dead girl from one of those horror movies.
Three words – fuck my life.
I fell back on the bed with a sigh, determined to remain there for as long as possible but for a sudden rapping on the door.
god, please don't let it be Kara coming to check if I was done getting ready. Because the last time we met, that was what she'd urged me to do – and that was almost two hours ago.
I really wouldn't be surprised if she was the one at the door given her excitement for this party. If one didn't know better, they'd assume it was her birthday.
