-Ember-
"I love you guys so much." I admit, picking up Berta and Greta, one in each arm. "You've been my saviours."
"Stop it!" Berta cries as Greta blows her nose. "You're going to make me cry even more."
"It was a lovely ceremony. Coal is one lucky guy." Greta pats my shoulder with her boney hand as I put them down.
"Damn right he is." Bea puts in. "Now listen you..." She points at Coal, as he backs away. I don't catch much of what she says except 'commitment', 'love' and 'knife'. I chuckle to myself and shake the hands of a few other people.
"Ember! Ember!" A group of well dressed demons call. "What's going to happen to Hell while you're gone?"
I smile broadly. "Berta, Greta and Bea will be taking care of it until my return. Their wish is your command." They nod their heads vigorously. Chatting their consent.
"Are you sure? That's an awful big chance you're taking with them." An older demon says, looking down her nose at me.
"I'm positive." Matching her glare. "These ladies are the finest you'll ever meet. I trust them with my life." This makes Berta cry more vigorously.
"Ladies! Ladies!" Bea choruses. "The newly weds have some honeymooning to do so, let's clap and send them on their way!" A wave of cheers follows as Coal come up to me.
"Ready to go babe?" I smile and nod. He leaves a lingering kiss on my lips, his eyes saying he'll finish it later. I open the limo door and slide in, hand linked with Coal's.
"Where to?" The drive asks us, tipping his hat.
I look at Coal, and unsaid question on my lips. "To the topic Lucifer's hotel." He looks at me. "We have a portal to get too." The demon grunts his understanding and steers us off the curb and onto the road.
We drive for a while in silence until Coal sighs. "I can't do it."
"Can't what?" I ask nervously. What's he talking about? He unbuckles me and pulls me into his lap.
"I can't sit beside the most beautiful woman ever to exist and not kiss her." His hands slide up my arms and caress my waist. He starts trailing kisses along my jaw and neck. Setting of tingles from every place he touches.
"Stop it!" I protest. "I have to look at least semi presentable, and you are doing a fantastic job at ruining my makeup." He laughs and I put my head onto his shoulder, listening to the steady rhythm of his heart.
So much has changed. It wasn't too long ago that I was looking to apply to college and keep my life normal. Now I was married to the man of my dreams, I had tamed a supernatural being that has coexisted inside me for my whole life and I stopped a war. Of course, I can't take all the credit. Spark. Her name haunts me everyday. She had to die so I could have what I've always wanted. She was my twin to the end and, when she died, a piece of me died too.
I'll never have the perfect family. I'm really all that's left of it. I never really needed a dad. I'd grown up without one. I needed my mom. She had been my protector. Most of all I needed Spark. We had had each other's backs, we were twins, we were the twins. The supernatural, one of a kind, twins. Twins who were so different, yet so much the same.
We get to the hotel and climb up to the roof. Coal has our bags slung over his shoulder. After a lifetime in a small town I would finally get to travel, to distant lands, ancient monuments, maybe even back in time. Coal opens the portal and throws our bags into it.
"I love you." He whispers kissing my cheek.
"I love you too." I smile, a smile so true it consumes me. He takes my hand and pulls me into the portal. I'm going to travel, with the man I love. I don't know when we'll be back, but I do know where we're going.
First stop...
