-Spark-
I close my eyes as soon as we get through the portal.
"Uh Spark...What are you doing?" Caleb chuckles.
"Well," I say in all seriousness. "I heard that if a human lays eyes on Heaven they'll die."
He chuckles, "You don't have to worry about that."
I slowly open my eyes and finally get to see Heaven.
My first reaction is actually that it looks like a little village. All the houses different, some colourful, some plain, but each reflecting the kind of angel that lives there.
"See the colours of the houses? How they're always shifting? That's because the auras of the people who live in the house affect how it looks." Caleb explains to me.
At the farthest end of the village is a long gravel path leading over the horizon.
"Where does that lead?" I ask quizzically.
"The Throne." Caleb says with pride in his voice.
I see a long strip of smaller houses on the right side of the village. Which Caleb explains are the living quarters for the warriors while they are training.
"It's all so beautiful." I gasp.
"Yes. Yes it is." Caleb agrees.
"So..." I say excitedly. "Where are we going?"
"See that tall building over there?" Caleb says pointing to the left of where we stand.
I nod vigorously.
"That's the business quarter. That's where we need to go. That's where all the Archangels are."
Archangels?
"Come on let's go." Caleb urges, sounding like a kid on Christmas morning.
"Okay!" I say trying to mimic his excitement.
He pulls me through the streets that are bustling with activity.
Angelic beings flying from place to place at a speed so intense they seem like just a blur to the human eye.
I look up at the sky, that isn't like the sky from home at all.
The clouds are scattered across it completing the beauty of it all. It is such an intense blue, it's captivating like I could stare at it for hours.
Caleb drags me through the streets and in no time we're at the towering office building, the suns rays bouncing off of the glass, shining through the city, making everything glow with a warm, comforting light.
We quickly run through the revolving doors.
As we continue walking I look back and sigh.
Ember, Caleb and I used to love playing in revolving doors, ever since we were small.
We'd run through and the first person to leave, lost and the last person still in the doors won.
Caleb looks at me, clearly remembering it too.
"Come on." He says fiercely. "They've been expecting you."
They've been...what?!
Suddenly I don't want to be here anymore.
"Caleb..." I whine. "Can we just go home."
He looks at me shocked. "Don't be ridiculous. This is where you belong."
Where I belong? There's definitely something going on that I don't know about.
Caleb takes me up the elevator made of pure glass...which makes the ride terrifying. Clutching onto Caleb for dear life, and closing my eyes until I can get off this death trap.
At long last the elevator 'dings' softly and the doors open.
I practically throw myself onto the solid, opaque ground, thankful that it's not also made of glass.
I follow Caleb to a door labeled 'Archangel Gabriel' in elegant silver lettering.
He knocks three times and waits patiently until some calls out a quiet "Enter".
We walk into the room and I almost fall to the ground.
The office looks like any normal office, grey walls, black book shelf, a desk situated just in front of a large set of windows, the office is normal yes, but the man sitting at the desk definitely is not.
His black hair tied into a low ponytail and the back of his neck, his skin, bronzed, hands calloused and large.
His eyes are a devastatingly beautiful blue, the colour of the sky on a warm summer day.
He looks at Caleb, who is standing tall and proud. Looking like a soldier awaiting further instructions.
"Caleb." Gabriel says, his voice deep and melodic, the most beautiful sound I've ever heard. "Thank you for returning Spark to where she belongs."
"It was my honour sir." Caleb replies.
Where she belongs? Sir?
"Um excuse me..." I say and Gabriel looks at me with a soft expression. "Why exactly do I 'belong here'? I belong with my sister and right now I don't see her." I say shyly.
Gabriel's expression hardens. "Your sister does not belong here, but you do." He states with a rude bluntness.
He turns and addresses Caleb. "I'm sure she has many questions, take her to the living quarters she can speak with the council as soon as possible."
"Yes sir." Caleb agrees and drags me out the door and away from Gabriel and all the answers I want.
"Caleb!" I scream. "Take me back! I want to know where Ember is!" He quickly covers his hand over my mouth. I struggle and claw at his hand but he won't budge.
"I suggest you don't say her name so freely around here." he commands in a powerful bark.
"Fine." I say and rip myself out of his grasp.
I follow him in silence down a few long corridors until we get to a more hotel looking section of the large building.
He leads me over to room 124, with three little letters written underneath it, 'V.I.P'.
"Here. Get some sleep I'll see you tomorrow, okay?" Caleb says softly.
I nod and slide into his out stretched arms, after a few seconds he pulls away and kisses my forehead bidding me goodnight.
"Goodnight my little Spark." He whispers.
"Night Caleb." I reply and slip into the room.
On any other day I would marvel at the beauty of the room. The crisp white walls, with gold trim, the gold and silver decor. The princess styled bed, with soft plush sheets and twinkle lights wrapped around it.
Instead of marvelling at the beauty of this place, I simply fall onto the bed and cry.
I cry until my tears turn dry, until my throat is sore, until there are only a few tears slipping past my eyelids, and I slowly and sadly cry myself to sleep, welcoming the darkness with open arms.
