Chapter 5- Calvin

Scarlett's POV

I walk up marble stairs, a man at the entrance smiles at me, he looks well together. He has a white cloth on his hand and is directing people inside so I'm assuming he must be a butler. I walk closer and see a name tag that reads "Alfred".

"Might I say, you look ravishing dear." The man says kindly.

I give him a small appreciative smile as I hear footsteps behind me.

"I was lucky I found parking. Parking lots aren't even this full" Colin says as he places his arm on my lower back.

We had an argument last night, luckily it's blown over and we're back to normal. Unfortunately it's become a daily ritual, us having a disagreement or fight over something stupid. We recently moved to this area because I got an incredible job offer that I couldn't miss. Colin being the man that he is, chose to come with me. I never forced him to make such a rash decision yet I always feel like it's my fault he's unhappy in this place.

He's been looking for jobs for the past month and it's been driving him crazy, he doesn't like staying home while I'm off getting prepared for the year to come. But after searching and searching he found a job and they hired him. When It came to light that he'd be working at this architectural company called "Y/L/N Arch" I was shocked.

Not only shocked, I was proud. My boyfriend working at the second best stock market in America...well first now that I think about it. I'm just happy that he's finally getting comfortable in this place and found a job he actually enjoys.

"Ready?" Colin says pulling his arm out for me to link with.

I take a deep breath "Yeah" I say as I link my arm with his.

Colin nods at Alfred and he opens the door for us to enter.

"Thank You" I say walking inside.

"Not a problem dear" he says, redirecting his view to incoming guests.

As I walk in I'm taken aback. This is something out of a movie. People laughing, chatting, and giving what i suppose are fake smiles. I mean this is a business party after all, everyone in here are competitors.

"Scar?" Colin says. I clearly got lost in the moment because there's a man right next to him looking at me, teasingly. It reminds me of someone.

I shake my head and clear my throat. "Sorry, I got a little distracted." I say.

Colin smiles at me. "This is my boss, Y/F/N"

The man reaches his hand out. "A pleasure, Mr Jost talks a lot about you." He says.

I shake his hand and look at Colin, he's nervous I can see it in his face. I mean why wouldn't he be this is his first job related party...and it's my first time meeting his boss.

"Oh really?" I say, diverting my gaze back to the man.

"Yes, of course. How you managed to get a job as a head professor at Brown University." he says happily.

"Jobs like that aren't handed to just anyone, you're very special, I'm assuming." The man says in a teasing manner.

I smile "Thank You, and congratulations to your company."

He throws his hands up dismissively. "This is only the beginning dear, with Mr Jost by my side, great things to come." He nudges Colin playfully.

Im happy for him. His boss seems to actually like him, which not everyone can admit.

"How's your daughter?" Colin asks the man.

"Oh, that's right. She should be around here somewhere, I'd love for the two of you to meet." the man says while looking in crowds of people.
