Chapter 1: Alone

Mia's POV:
I kicked a can along the pathway as I headed home. I was greeted as per usual. "Good your home now you can cook dinner." My lazy arse always high and alcoholic mother, I had enough money to move out it was just that I couldn't really find a place to go to. "How about you do it for once," I said taking the beer out of her hand and pouring it down the sink. "See no respect you don't even let me finish my beer."
"That's because you are going to drink yourself to death soon." Mum never used to be an alcoholic but ever since the incident, where my dad and I were in a car crash an I survived by climbing out the broken window and scraping all down my back and having wounds that turned into scars on my arms and legs, she has just never been the same and I have desperately tried to help her but have given up because she won't listen to me or even to her doctor. "Alright then I shall make dinner but you have to get high with me."
"I'm going to hand you into the cops in a minute if you don't stop buying drugs and using all your money up."
"But it helps me relax," she did a wavy hip movement.
"No it makes you insane, you thought I was dad at one point and tried to have sex with me."
"That's because you look so much like your father," she collapsed on the floor and I decided to just go out and get some takeaway. At least I would get a few hours away from her tomorrow as I was going to go to laser tag and that was always fun. I usually just joined a group that didn't have enough players or if they needed an extra hand, I was actually working for them but I just turned up on the weekends and when they usually had more people mainly kids. I said I didn't need to be paid for it as I was already getting enough from YouTube but they said just put it towards my mothers rehab and so that's what I did. As I got home mum was still collapsed so I put her meal in the fridge and left her a note right beside her head. After I had finished my meal mum was just waking up so I just left her to get up on her own accord and went to my room. I started texting my best friend, Lizzy.

M- Heyyyy Liz
L- Heyyyy mi
M- Can't really have a nick name for my name can you
L- No not really I still like mi though
M- But when you say it it sounds like, hi me
L- True that's why when I say it I say Mia
M- True you have been, didn't really notice
L- You going to laser tag tomorrow
M- Yeah they said I probably won't have to join a group as it's a pretty big group of people
L- Kay well have fun anyways
M- Haha yeah
L- How's ya mum going
M- She collapsed tonight I just left her to get up on her own
L- Why don't you turn her in
M- She's my mum is a bit hard to
L- I did, well my brother but it's still family
M- But your brother tried to rape you it's kinda different, mums harmless to me but not to herself
L- Then turn her in and she can't harm herself anymore
M- It's harder than that Liz
M- I have almost enough for rehab money anyways then I can be on my own for a while and fix up the house a bit
L- Yeah I guess so, well I'm going to bed now got to get up at 5
M- Kay but use
L- what? No thanks you
M- I swear I typed byyeeee

M- Omg now I'm dining on laugher

M- Maybe, ok ta ra then talk to you tomorrow

I didn't have to do much tomorrow except make sure mum got up and ready for work then I would head off to laser tag. It was only 8:30pm so I called Joseph (the person running laser tag that day) to make sure how many people were coming to know how much earlier I had to be there. "Hey Joey," I said. Joseph was a good looking guy and there was a rumour that he liked me but I didn't like him, I was very tall for a female and he was shorter than me it would just be weird. "Hey Mia what's up."
"Just wanted to double check on how many were coming so I knew how much earlier I had to be there."
"Umm let me check hold on." I heard the sound of the phone being put down then paper crinkling. "8," he said picking up the phone again, "from what I heard it was 2 girls and 6 boys."
"Alright just checking shouldn't need to come to early then."
"Nope, Kian is picking up the truck."
"Ok thanks Joey."
"Hey Mia I was also wondering if you wanted to go for a coffee sometime maybe."
"Ummm sorry Joey no, I just don't like you that way."
"Nar it's ok just asking."
"Ok again sorry."
"Bye then."
"Bye." I hung up and decided that I had nothing better to do. So made sure that mums alarm was set and her work clothes were out and ready and any beer bottles were hidden away as they are to expensive to just throw out. After all that was done I was sorta tired so just decided to go to sleep.
