THE FULL MOON
shone reflected onto the rippling water surface as you watched the rhythmic micro movements of the waves from your position on the wooden boat. Along with you were two of the other demon slayers. Giyu was situated on the second boat not far from yours along with another duo as well.As you drifted further into the thickening mist, you gripped the gunwale firmly. Your stomach constricted in a sense of foreboding and your heart was starting to race; coming threateningly close to break through your rib cage. That's at least how it felt as you stubbornly concentrated on your breathing.
You weren't sure if the sudden surge of your nervousness was due to the immediate presence of the demon right below or if it was borne from another source. That aside, you knew that fighting the demon that housed in this lake was about ten times more difficult than beheading one on land (which was already difficult enough at times). This was a fact that drove you to determination though.
No matter how much your emotions would act up in this situation, you had something to prove. You needed to defeat that demon. You wanted to show Sanemi that his efforts in your training were not in vain; to Ubuyashiki, you wanted to prove that his decision of recruiting you despite your lack of experience was the right call. Most of all, you needed this opportunity to prove to yourself that you could get this shit done.
Your plans were grand and maybe a little bit insane and impossible, but you wanted to strive up and see them archived. If not by you, you'd make damn sure that someone else would be up for the task. Either way, you wouldn't accomplish any of it if you hadn't the needed strength.
This was another small step to victory and you wouldn't allow the gnawing fear within you to mess it up.
With that thought, you stood a little straighter and rose to your feet. The fishing net now rested in your hands, ready to be thrown out while your companions rowed the boat farther into the impending danger.
Silence hung heavily in the air, making your ears strain for anything out of order. There was the indistinct rustling of the townspeople mingling in the streets, the gentle rustling of far always leafs and the steady splashing of water as the oars split through it.
