Chapter 13 Jacielle

The first concert is today. I paced around my small dressing room. None of them have heard me sing but Harry. In the management meeting they tried, but failed miserably. I was biting all my fingernails off when a petite blond lady walked in with a baby on her hip. “You must be Jace.” I nodded and she smiled. “I’m Lou and this is Lux.” She said raising the baby’s hand. “I’m the stylist.” She handed me the baby and walked over to the racks of clothes. Lux gave me a slobbery smile and started tugging on my hair. I tickled her stomach and she squirmed and giggled. “She likes you.” Lou stated snapping me out of baby mode. “It’s a good thing too since it looks like you’re going to be around for a while.” She winked and I shrugged. “Do you like either of these?” she held up two dresses. They were both beautiful, but I knew which one I wanted to wear.

“That one.” I said smiling. Lou looked between the dress and me. She shrugged and I traded the baby for the dress. I changed and looked in the mirror. “I love it!” I spun and watched the gold strands twirl. It was a strapless dress with a sweetheart neckline. It had sequins all over it, but became gold strands right under the bust line. There was a skin colored tan skirt beneath it. Lou looked at me and nodded.

“Hold Lux and I’ll start on your hair.” I gladly took the little princess and sat down. Lux started clapping making Lou and I laugh. “She really does like you!” I smiled and Lou started tugging on my auburn hair. “So tell me about you and Harry.”

“He hasn’t told you?” she laughed.

“He’s told me over and over again about his childhood friend who is so beautiful and that I had to meet her.” I smiled.

“We grew up together then I moved toAmericaand we still talked to each other, but once he became famous the calls were quicker and the texts were shorter. When I wreaked he came to see me and we connected like old times. Now we’re together and we annoy each other constantly, but I wouldn’t take any of it back.” I said twirling Lux’s hair around my finger. Lou let out a sigh.

“Well, I think you’re in love with Harry.” Lux smiled.

“Harry!” she said in her little baby voice. We laughed and Lou finished curling my hair. She started on my make-up while I rocked Lux. Thirty minutes later she was done. There was a knock on the door.

“Come in.” Lou whispered. Harry cautiously stepped in and smiled. Lou winked at me. “I’ll leave.” She pointed to me. “Come give her to me when you’re done.” Confused I looked down to see a sleeping baby in my arms. I nodded and smiled not taking my eyes off of Lux. She was so adorable and on top of that she was living every girls dream. I started playing with her fingers. Harry pulled up a chair and sat beside me.

“You’re gonna be a good mom.” I raised my eyebrows at him and shook my head.

“I’m not having kids.” He looked at me funny. “Harry don’t start.” I pleaded.

“When you were little that’s all you ever talked about!” I ignored him and kept staring at Lux. “I can tell you want kids by the way you look at her.” He simply stated.

“I don’t want kids cause there’s a risk that something could go wrong. Even if I’m forty something they can die and I can’t do anything to stop it.” I sighed. “You nervous about tonight?” I asked hoping to switch topics. He shook his head.

“No, but you are.” I smiled.

            “How’d you know?”

“Jace, you never sing in front of anyone.” He was right. I nodded. “You’ll be fine.” He smiled. We both stood up. “Do you want me to take her to Lou so you can calm down?” I smiled and nodded. I reluctantly handed her to him. He smiled and kissed her forehead.

“You’re gonna be a good dad.” I stated, but he shook his head before kissing me.

“I’m not having kids I guess. My wife thinks there’s too big of a risk.” He winked before walking out the door.

**

Harry left me alone to calm down, but all I did was think about our conversation. My head hurt from the added stress. Lou came and saved me from my misery, so now I’m standing behind stage. I’m right before the boys. I was twisting the microphone in my hands when Harry tapped me on my shoulder. I felt like I was going to puke, so I didn’t speak. He started massaging my shoulders. “Calm down.” I hugged him and he rubbed my back. “Jace you can really sing, so go out there and be yourself. That’s all they want.” I nodded and he handed me a bottle of water which I gladly drank. “I love you.” He smiled before kissing me and taking back the water. “It’s your turn.” I saw the little slideshow of me and Harry’s childhood pictures all the way to when he came and visited me in the hospital. I smiled and as soon as the music started I ran out on stage.

“Am I suppose to put my life on hold because you don’t know how to act and you don’t know where your life is going, Am I suppose to be torn apart broken-hearted in a corner crying pardon me if I don’t show it, I don’t care if I never see you again, I’ll be alright, Take this final piece of advice and get yourself together, either way baby I’m gone.” the crowd was jumping and having fun and I was right there with them. I was twirling and shaking my hips loving every second of it. I saw Autumn in the first row recording my performance to send to my dad, so I blew her a kiss. “I’m so over it I’ve been there and back, changed all my numbers and just in case you’re wonderin, I’ve got that new I’m-a-single-girl swag, got me with my girls and we’re singing it, Sing, Na na na na hey, na na na na hey, Hey hey hey goodbye, na na na na hey, na na na na hey, Hey hey hey goodbye, Cut my hair cause it reminded me of you.” I twirled one of my auburn curls around my finger. “I know you liked the long do, had to switch the attitude up, Thinking of changing the power, ridin all around on the passenger side, too bad you missed out on the way that I’m riding, I don’t care if I never see you again, I’ll be alright, Take this final piece of advice and get yourself together, either way baby I’m gone.” I started singing the chorus again, but five more voices joined in. I watched the boys enter from both sides flipping their hair and dancing. I smiled and kept going singing all the libs while the boys sang the melody. They were acting like girls and started shaking their butts. I had to stop singing for a second cause I was laughing so hard. “Sing it with us!” I yelled to the crowd and everyone started clapping. “Na na na na hey, na na na na hey, hey hey hey goodbye, Na na na na hey, na na na na hey, Hey hey hey goodbye!” They all cheered and the boys gave me a hug. Harry spun me around before kissing me. I cheered right along with the crowd. “Give it up for the girls!” I yelled motioning to the boys who were doing their best diva poses. I exited the stage and got changed into sweats. I joined Autumn and watched the boys concert. Harry kept looking at me and smiling which gave me butterflies. I yelled and jumped around with Autumn. I was having so much fun and I couldn’t believe this was my job.
