Chapter 1 Jacielle

I woke up with a pounding headache. The strong smell of alcohol hung in the air. I lifted myself off the dingy green couch in Harry's bungalow and looked around. My two best friends were lying on the ground with red cups and cans all around them. Good thing his parents were out of town for the week. I shuffled around looking for my phone while trying to avoid making noise. Unfortunately, I stepped on a beer can. Oh Joy. "Jesus Christ!" I yelled holding one foot while jumping on the other. Taz stirred on the floor before she got up.

"What the hell? Could you be a little bit quieter? I mean we do have killer hangovers." she motioned between her and Harry. I ran a hand through my messed up auburn hair. "Calm down Jace. His parents are in London for the rest of this week." I nodded. His parents were super nice and were spending some time away from us. Which I couldn't see why. We've only been with them for three months straight. I had nothing to worry about besides my brother and sister.

"I'm not worried about them. I'm freaking out because Matt and Zaya will be home soon and we're only fifteen." she kicked Harry and he grunted.

"What." he said in his sleep laced british accents. I sighed.

"Get up. We have to clean before my siblings get here." he ran a hand down his face, his brown curls were sticking up everywhere. Every summer since we moved to America when we were ten, we flew to England, along with my brother and sister, to hang out with Harry. When we were ten Taz's parents died, so we took her in and moved to America to push out the bad memories. My mom, Lucy, is a lawyer and my dad, Zach, is a sheriff. Seems like a pretty carefree family, right? My parents were strict and our only relief was our visits to Harry's. The only problem was that my parents sent my older siblings. Harry stretched popping his back. I cringed at the sound of his bones popping. "You freak." he smirked before throwing a can at me. "How did we even get all this?" I asked confused. Harry and Taz paused.

"I don't know." I hit my head against the cool wall. "Don't beat yourself up love, we have a room to clean." Harry said cheerfully. He pinched my cheek before he started sending me into full on convulsions.

"Harry! Stop tickling me!" I spat between burst of laughter. He suddenly jumped and my tense muscles relaxed.

Ouch." he said rubbing his back looking at Taz. "Tashyra! How dare you!" he faked shock.

"Well I can't clean all by myself you know." she replied with her hand on her hip.

"Sorry mom." Harry raised his hands in innocence.

"Stop acting like a crankshaft." I added. We smiled at the use of our made up word. I smiled thinking about my two best friends and started cleaning.

After we cleaned up the place we started playing Mario Kartz. "I'm winning!" Taz yelled from where she was sprawled out on the kitchen floor. Harry sat across from me. His eyebrows were furrowed showing how hard he was concentrating. That's how you could tell he was losing.

"I won!" I yelled jumping off the couch and doing a little victory dance. Taz threw hands up in the air dropping the game on her face.

"Sit down you freak." Harry said throwing a pillow at me.

"Harold. It's not nice to throw things." Zaya said as she entered the kitchen. I rolled my eyes at how she thought she was the queen and that she should be treated like one she's only nineteen. She's the freak who needs to sit down.

"Sorry." Harry said sinking into the couch. I laughed and he whipped his head towards me. "Shut up." he mumbled.

"Those words aren't nice either." Matt threw over his shoulder sending Harry a joking smile. Matt was more Harry's brother than my own. Matt sat the groceries down on the kitchen counter that was littered with alcoholic beverages hours ago. I laughed harder at the fact Harry got yelled at again and he just shook his head. Zaya sighed.

"Jace. Can I speak with you?" I rolled my eyes pushing myself of the couch. Harry laughed knowing how much I hated talking to Zaya. I flipped him off.

"Hey little sis, that's not good." Matt said giving me a pointed look. I just shook my head and followed Zaya into an extra room.

"You're having fun, right?" Zaya asked. I thought back to all the fun things we did this summer. Running out back throwing buckets of water on each other. Straightening Harry's hair. Shaving Harry's legs, which was actually pretty funny. I also remembered laying under the stars in Harry's arms while he sang to me and the warm summer breeze carrying his words away into the night while Taz went to the movies with this boy she met. I nodded. Zaya sighed again before sitting down on the bed. "This is the last summer we can come here." I stopped breathing completely.

"What do you mean?" tears started welling up in my eyes. "How?" those words made the whole world around me stand still. Ever since I was born Harry and I shared every minute of our lives together. I mean we took baths together as children. Even when I moved to America I called him twice a week. His mom use to watch me every time my parents were busy.

"Mom and dad don't trust me and Matt any more." I shook my head tears were streaming down my face. I kept my voice hard showing no emotion.

"What did you do?" I demanded. Sadness filled her eyes and the whole mood changed.

"I.." she started crying. "I'm pregnant. Mom found out and went to talk to Matt about who the dad was, and she found him drinking. You're lucky you guys got to come this summer." my anger flared up. How could they be so stupid and why were my parents so strict? She's nineteen and he's twenty-one. That's old enough to do whatever they want in my book.

"We can't come anymore because you guys messed up?" complete silence. I opened the door. "Way to be a screw up Zaya." I said before walking out. "I hate you!" I yelled slamming the door. Taz and Harry looked shocked at my change in moods. Matt stared at the ground playing with his hands. I practically ran over to him and slapped him. "How could you? And you kept it from me. I trusted you Matt."

"Stop Jace." he said sadly. I couldn't see him through my tears, but I felt his disappointment.

"No! You ruined my life. You are a liar! I hate you." he flinched at my harshness, but I ran outside before he could say anything else. I went around back and sat in the shade. Tomorrow was probably my last day in England forever. I cried even harder. No more buckets of water, no more stars. How could fifteen years of friendship be taken away by two people?

"There you are." Harry said sitting down next to me. I rested my head on his shoulder.

"This is the last.." I begun, but he cut me off.

"I know. Mom told me before you guys arrived." he said picking at the grass.

"Aren't you sad?" I asked him. I felt him nod his head.

"Of course I am. We took baths together, remember? All my baby pictures have you in them, but I didn't want to waste the rest of the time I had left with you two grieving. I wanted to have fun." I smiled. He was always so optimistic. I guess that's why we were best friends. His positive attitude outweighed my negative one.

"I'm going to miss you Hazza." I said softly.

"I'm going to miss you to Jace." he whispered into my hair. I started crying again, so he wrapped his arms around me and started singing to calm me down.

"What if this is the last time I hear you sing?" he paused and unwound his arms. He reached into his pants pocket.

"I bought these for you, Taz and me. I was going to wait until tomorrow to give them to you, but my plans got ruined." I smiled weakly. He pulled out a gold necklace with a circle pendent with the word 'wish' in the middle. "They all match. It's to keep the hope that we'll see each other again. So you don't forget about me." he smiled sadly.

"We would never forget about you." I said craning my neck to pinch his cheeks. He swatted my hand.

"We should probably go back in there. I'm pretty sure Taz is beat up about it to." I sighed.

"If we must." I followed him to the front of the house and we stopped at the door. "I love you Hazza."

"I love you too Jace." he said before kissing my forehead softly. We entered the bunglow for the last time together.
