Chapter 5 Jacielle

I was almost finished packing when my dad came home. Harry had passed out on the floor with all the clothes surrounding him. I left my room and met my dad downstairs in the kitchen. “Hey man.” He smiled at the old saying. Apparently, when I was little I couldn’t say dad or daddy, so I called him man and it stuck until I was twelve and calling your dad ‘man’ wasn’t cool. He pointed to the two empty Capri Suns on the counter.

“Do we have company?” I nodded.

“Yeah. Harry’s upstairs passed out on my floor.” He arched his eyebrows.

“In your room?”

“No in the garage.” I said sarcastically picking up the Capri Suns and throwing them away. “He’s helping me pack.” I had to tell him sometime even though I’ll regret it.

“Pack for what?” he picked up the mail in one hand and his coffee in the other. I sighed.

“I’m going to England.” He set the coffee down and glared at me.

“Go unpack your room. You’re not leaving the country with that boy. What gave you that ridiculous idea?” I crossed my arms.

“It’s only one tour!”

“Tour? What are you doing on a tour inEngland?” I sighed.

“Harry’s in a boy band called One Direction and he wants me to be one of their opening acts. So I’m going.” He ran a hand down his face.

“Have you told your mom?” his face hardened.

“No.” I barely said. “Dad, I’m not doing this to hurt you guys.” He shook his head.

“I lost Matt, Zaya, and now you.” He laughed in spite of himself.

“Oh and I’m the disgrace?” I uncrossed my arms and leaned against the wall. “You guys always compare me to them when I’m the only one who’s still here! How can I be the disgrace? I didn’t have a child and I survived my wrea-”

“Stop!” he shouted. “That’s enough!” I rolled my eyes.

“Whatever.” I walked back upstairs to find Harry leaning on the staircase railing.

“Intense.” I shot him a look.

“Not in the mood.” He raised his hands in innocence.

“Sorry mom.” He smirked.

“Asshole.” I muttered before slamming the door in his face.

We landed in England the next morning. Since they’re five hours ahead of us jet lag was killer. Harry helped load all eighteen of my suitcases on and in the range rover. We headed towards the studio since all the boys were already there awaiting our arrival. I was nervous so I started playing with my necklace and straightening my outfit. “You look fine love.” Harry said. I smiled and tried to stay still.

“I’m sorry. I’m just a little nervous. These are the people who took my place.” I replied back to Harry.

“Why? I’ve already told the lads all about you and they seem to like you, unless they’re lying.” I sighed.

“That’s reassuring.” Harry’s bodyguard stopped the car in front of a brick building.

“First, I want you to meet Paul.” The man nodded before rushing me and Harry out of the car and into the building. I was paying attention to the people inside when I ran into the door. Harry burst out laughing.

“Shut up.” I said rubbing my forehead. Harry returned his attention to a short guy with drumsticks who was standing by the main desk. He lifted his head and looked at us. “Harry! About time.” A smile broke out across Harry’s face. Once they finished their ‘man hug’ he introduced me.

“Jace, this is Josh. Josh Jace.” I smiled and shook his hand.

“Nice to meet you.” He said coolly.

“You too.” Harry led us up a series of stairs before we reached the recording room. Eight heads turned and looked at us.

“This is Simon, Niall, Liam, Zayn, Louis, Dan, Jon, and Sandy.” He pointed everyone out individually and then pointed at me. “This is Jace. She’s the old friend I was telling you guys about and she’s going to fill in the open slot we have.” Simon gave Harry a confused look.

“I’ve never heard of her before.” Simon replied suspiciously. Harry shook his head.

“She’s not famous, but she will be.” I smiled. That was good enough for Simon, but not for Louis.

“Sing.” He demanded. I looked at him funny.

“Excuse me?”

“Harry said you can sing, so sing.” I crossed my arms defensively aware of all their eyes on me.

“Oh no, I really shouldn’t.”

“Come on, we’ve got all day.” I saw a sly smile play at the corner of Harry’s lips.

“You’re an ass.” I said a little too loud. Strike one for the new girl. Everybody started working again and I sat on the couch against the wall. When Zayn was finished with his recording session he sat down beside me.

“It was nice to finally meet you. Harry’s told us a lot about his best friend.” He smiled.

“Really now? Like what?” he laughed.

“He told us about that one time when you guys were young you stuck sand down his pants, so” I waved my arms.

“Enough!” I laughed and played with my necklace. “That was one of his best pranks.” Zayn shook his head.

“There will be pranks played when you stay with us. Every night Louis picks a different person.” I smiled. “Anyway, we’ve seen pictures where you shaved the word ‘gay’ into his leg and straightened his hair.” I laughed. I remembered he cried when he walked out. Niall came out of the session next.

“So what are we doing tonight?” he said clapping his hands and rubbing them together. Zayn shrugged.

“We’ll probably get her settled into the house.” Niall nodded and Zayn turned to look at me. “We’re staying at my house until the concerts start in a week.” I nodded and the other three boys walked out. “Recording over?” Zayn asked. Harry nodded and the guys began gathering their stuff to leave.

“Where is she going to sit?” Paul asked Harry.

“On the floor.” Paul shrugged and led them out of the room. Harry hooked his finger through my belt loop dragging me along with them.

I did sit on the floor. The whole ride to Zayn’s house Louis was fighting with Harry about which rapper they thought was better. We pulled into Zayn’s driveway and started to unpack the jeep. “Did you bring everything you owned?” Louis asked.

“Just about.” All the guys exchanged glances.

“Then we better get to work.” Liam added throwing a smile over his shoulder to me and hauled the first suitcase inside the house.
