the war, part 2

Repairing the protective shield around Hogwarts took a moment. Skyler was thankful for Olivia's presence, though. She truly was a remarkable mage, and excellent at restoration and protective spells.

With a sad smile, she let her eyes wander the courtyard. The surrounding corridors were smashed and broken. Some places of the castle were even scorched by flames. Spots of blood were the remaining indications of the fallen people, gathered and guarded in the Great Hall.

Her eyes stopped their wandering as they found familiar faces at the stairs... Draco Malfoy seemed to be consoling her best friend, Daphne Greengrass. What had happened? Now that she thought of it, she had not seen Blaise yet. Nor Fred or George or Vali.

The firm winds seemed to strengthen as they washed over her like a cold bucket of fear. No. Though she could somewhere hear Hermione and Olivia asking for her, wondering why she suddenly paced forward to the castle... Skyler's vision and mind were focused on her Slytherin friends.

Draco noticed her first. He stopped patting Daphne's back and stared at her. His eyes went over her arm, where Kelly was permanently present on her skin. The snake looked more intimidating than the previous one. Still, behind the amazement in his eyes, she could sense the grief.

"What happened?"

Daphne dried her tears and looked up at her. "What's it to you?" Her eyes narrowed suspiciously, eyeing Skyler's physique. It took Skyler a moment to realize Daphne did not recognize her. Not that it was the greatest matter of importance right now, but that still hurt.

"You're crying, I'd like to help you..." she stated. Skyler needed to do something – at least until she could find the strength in her to enter the Great Hall.

Daphne's eyes raged, an unfamiliar fury surrounding her. "Help me? A few hours ago, all you Order people wanted to do was lock me and the rest of the Slytherins up!" The brunette rose to her feet, pushing Draco's comforting arm off of her.

"If anything, it's your fault! How could you leave Slytherin students out of this war? How could you not assign those who wanted to fight a companion? Like you did for all the others! It is your prejudice that has gotten my sister killed!" Her yells of fury turned into sobs at the end of her sentence.

Skyler felt anger overcome her heart. Wisely, she took a step back from Daphne, as she noticed the edges of her vision darken. "They. Did. What?!"

She looked over the courtyard. Olivia was approaching her, as a precaution. Everyone was watching her and Daphne.

Her darkened eyes sought Draco's. "Who did that? Which absolute imbecilic moron let that happen?" Draco's mouth open to answer, but apparently, she was to intimidating, as he averted his eyes. "Tell me, Draco. Tell me so I can make them pay!"

Daphne looked over her once more. "Why on earth would you..." Skyler watched as Daphne connected the dots, her eyes darting from the tattoo on her arm to the swords strapped to her back. "Skyler?" she screeched over the courtyard, jumping right into her arms.

"Hi Daph," Skyler mumbled, as she hugged her best friend, "I'm so sorry you had to go through that... and I'm so sorry for your loss."

Daphne had started crying again. "And I for yours," she said, tightening her arms around Skyler.
