"the one where everyone finds out"

He pushed Cassidy out of the way. The beam of light from the Chitauri gun missed them by only a hair. He threw a knife to the monster. "I got you," Loki said, more to reassure himself that she was alright.

Cassidy gave him a grin. "I was doing just fine." Loki raised an eyebrow at her.

"Sure, next time I'll have you get shot," he grumbled sarcastically, helping her back to her feet. The Chitauri's numbers decreased with each passing minute – Ebony Maw had underestimated them. A fatal mistake for Thanos' henchman.

"You won't let me get shot," Cassidy teased. She gave him a chaste kiss on the corner of his mouth and pointed her gun to the right. It still amazed Loki how she could aim without looking – how she could shoot that Chitauri through the head. Actually, it scared him a bit sometimes. But that was good. Life would be somewhat dull without this scary lady, anyway.

Loki gave her a playful glare. "No, I won't. Because you have eyes in your back and saw that bullet coming too," he sassed, smirking down at her before turning around and stabbing the Chitauri who had been approaching him. "And as much as I—" He dodged the sharp talons of the monster in front of him, then stabbed him in the neck. "Would love to continue this conversation," he resumed, looking back at Cassidy, "I think it'll have to wait."

"Great thinking, genius," she retorted, her voice dripping in heart-warming sarcasm. Loki grinned wickedly. Norns, he loved her.

He took off his horned helmet and used it to tackle three of the monsters at once – all of them receiving a dagger in the heart after that.

'Stark,' started Wanda Maximoff hesitantly, 'I have good news, and I have bad news.'

'Always start with the good news, Red. Just make my day.'

'Well, the regular Chitauri are almost all dead...' she said, and Loki heard her gulp down the 'but' for just a little bit longer. Oh, fuck.

'Just throw the 'but' in the mix, Wanda, we all know it's coming,' Skyler spoke up – what the hell had she been up to? Loki hadn't seen her fight anywhere.

'But Maw has released a new wave... about twenty of those creatures – but with two extra arms. So, maybe it's best if—'

A bloodcurdling scream echoed over the battlefield. Loki froze, the scream resounding in his bones and his ears. Skyler.

He ran. He ran to his niece, to his Queen. He could see her with Maw hovering over her, a cruel smirk playing on the creature's lips. Skyler had fallen to her knees, her swords by her sides – she had her hands in her hair, and she screamed. She screamed loud enough for them to hear, even though it sounded muffled.
