He couldn't help but smile as her bishop took down his king. Once again, Hermione Granger beat him in Wizard Chess – quite odd, since he had been playing it his entire life. "Funny," Draco mocked.
"You do know that Wizard Chess is no different than Muggle chess, don't you, Malfoy?" Granger said matter-of-factly, eyeing him with a worried look. "You are smiling at me, whilst you just lost a game..."
"It's no big deal, Granger," said Draco, looking up at her before whipping out his wand to repair the broken chess pieces.
Granger eyed him up and down, not too careful in wondering what the hell had gotten into him. Honestly, Draco wouldn't know it either. True, she helped him out of the darkness over the last two months, but it felt weird to him. Draco had to admit that Skyler hadn't been on his mind much, not anymore... yes, there was still a painful hole in his chest, yet it had stopped throbbing every second of the day – now, there was just a sting whenever he thought of her.
"What's going on with you?" Granger rose from her seat and walked over to him, not noticing a wrinkle in the dark blue carpet underneath them. She tripped and fell forward, her head ready to hit the table at full speed – at least, that would've happened if Draco didn't catch her.
She released a breath she'd been holding once he'd put her back on her feet, his hands still holding on to her upper arms tightly. Draco stared at her, he took all of it in. Her eyes, those dark orbs that could look so all-knowing; her the smooth skin on her cheeks, now slightly blushed; and her lips, those light pink lips that could form the sassiest remarks. "Never in all my life," Draco mumbled, "would I've guessed..."
Granger looked at him, confused. "Guessed what?" Her eyes flickered between his own and his lips, doing the same thing he did, just seconds ago... the only difference: she actually leaned in, until her lips were just one movement from his.
"This," Draco whispered, before kissing her.
