Edmund and I were being flown to Miraz's castle by a gryphon. At first, I was unsure as I have never travelled with a gryphon, but the idea of having Edmund with me made me more comfortable.
We landed on the roof of one of the towers, out of sight from a lone soldier standing guard. The man looked up, he must have heard something, however, he couldn't see us.
The gryphon that carried us over grabbed him by the shoulders and pulled him up and away before he could make any noise to alert anybody.
We knew this was our cue to jump from the roof. Edmund placed his left hand on the hilt of his sword, I did the same. I looked across the courtyard, and Edmund checked the battlements for any soldiers. It was all clear so this meant that the other gryphons could fly Peter, Susan and Caspian to the castle.
The plan was for Caspian to find his professor and help him escape before the actual attack, whilst Susan and Peter went on a hunt for Miraz. Lucy wasn't allowed to come, due to Edmund and Peter's instructions. I agreed with them, she should be safe back at the How with Trufflehunter.
Things were clearly going to plan as Susan shot an arrow at a soldier as she, Peter and Caspian landed. Her arrows were a beautiful golden wood with powerful red feathers. Edmund looked at me to see if I was okay, I returned with a weak smile. Earning a curt nod as his hand found its way into mine.
"Well isn't this fun," I said to Edmund sarcastically, leaning against one of the walls pretending to be casual. "Come here often?" Edmund smiled in amusement, trying not to laugh. I smiled at my accomplishment of lighting the mood.
"Only on business trips." He replied, his words causing me to laugh. Edmund looked proud at the fact he had out-humoured me and twirled his torch around in his free hand.
"Strange device." I mused, looking at the torch, bewildered as I let go of Edmund's hand. Edmund held a playful grin and passed it to me. I very carefully took it before handing it back. "And it just works... like that?"
"Well, you need to add batteries," Ed said as though it was obvious.
"Of course," I said, mocking his accent. "How could I be so ignorant." Ed smiled sheepishly before he continued to mess around with the torch. I eyed it wearily.
"Be careful," I warned, giving him a look telling him not to drop it.
"Don't worry," Edmund rolled his eyes, grinning. "There is no way I'm going to" He made a weird movement as the torch fell out of his grip and landed on the tower layer beneath us. "-drop it..." He concluded and I frowned.
Of course, he drops the stupid device. I thought to myself.
"Fantastic," I muttered, looking down before walking down the steps to go and fetch it. As I looked out an opening, I found that a Telmarine soldier had picked it up and looked at it curiously. I bit my lip, ducking down and not wanting to be caught again.
Edmund begins to turn bright red. "Pete's going to kill me." He muttered clearly embarrassed at the fact he dropped the torch.
The soldier turned the torchlight on accidentally. The light beamed high into the sky and his face, blinding him. We had to press against the wall to make sure he didn't see us.
Suddenly, bells started blaring all around us. We looked at one another, it was evident that Caspian, Susan and Peter had already started to attack the Telmarines.
I jumped down onto the soldier as Edmund gave me an incredulous look. The man immediately shook me off and went to punch me. I blocked it and aimed for his face, post jumping over a kick he directed at my legs. He staggered back at the impact as Edmund ran down the stairs.
