3rd pov ( no connection to other chapter)
There was never really anyway to tell when someone was a creature or not. Luckily, bug creatures are practically extinct, so they don't have to worry about being mistaken for cagasters. But other creatures still exist, as do several classes of beast and a few monsters. Creatures are the basic animals that lived before the cagasters and all things like that (tiger, bear, lion, fox, etc) while beasts are more from the previous eras, that existed before humans, though it's mostly land creatures, not many aquatic ones. (Dire wolves, Saber Toothed tiger, Mammoths.) Monsters are the ones most people watch out for, because they're the things no one knows whether they exist or not. (Dragons, Unicorns, Sphinxes, Werewolf.)
The different classes have different controls as well. Creatures are hard to spot because they have such ease hiding any animal parts, since not all cities accept them. However, for most if you manage to startle, threaten or excite them you have a chance of the features popping into existence without their control. Beasts have a bit harder time with control, but once they have it the only time you will see their features is if they're threatened or cornered. Monsters have the hardest time with control, but once it's gained, only threatening them or someone under their protection will get their features to come out. One thing all the classes have in common is the fact that the animal, no matter what class, is always the color of the person's hair.
No one is forced to put down what class they are or what animal, though there are some events only for certain types. ( Predator, Prey, Herbivore, Omnivore,Carnivore.) Some people let it be known so that others don't mess with what's theirs. For example, Qasim is a beast, a dire wolf to be exact and he's marked the kids as his, so people leave them alone. Hadi and Aisha are both creatures, though that does not make them any less formidable, as a panther and lion respectively. They've claimed each other and Qasim, as well as Kidow, the kids and Illie.
There are some other people who are known as creatures and beasts, with their tails, claws, teeth, ears, fur, scales or other such appendages showing. However, Exterminators and most military people tend to hide what class or at least what animal they are, just to be safe. After all, it gives them an advantage if they need it. For the most part, no one is bothered by appendages if they see them, not in city 5. There's just too many chances of cagaster outbreaks or death to honestly worry about another person. The only time a creature, beast or monster might be in trouble, is if they cage the animal for too long. Then they start to undergo a process called Decaging. The first sign is fur, scales, teeth or claws starting to fall off/out.The next usually has their senses dulling down, and the final stage is where it gets bad, with the human starting to lose weight, get extremely tired and then they sink into depression, before typically dying in their sleep. Some go on a rampage and others just start murdering people, but most die in their sleep.
Ms.Mario, Jin and Hadi had noticed that Kidow seemed... slower than usual, almost lethargic. Illlie had commented on the fact he was hardly eating anymore, and they had started to pay more attention. Ms.Mario and Jin had been on the lookout, trying to spot anything that might have fallen off him - they know he's a class of some kind, but had never asked - but so far have nothing. Ms. Mario is in fact a beast herself, a rather large Mammoth, while Jin is a creature, a bear. Neither have all that dark of hair compared to Kidow, but nothing. Illie had not seen anything either.
They had noticed that it's a bit easier to sneak up behind him, but not by much, and he seems to get lost a bit more often, almost as if something he was relying on has dulled or disappeared. With the lethargy and not eating, the three of them have officially fallen into protective mode, trying to limit what he did without letting him on. Kidow had in fact noticed, but he appreciates it and lets them continue like he doesn't know it, as gratitude. He'd usually take a solo mission in order to give his animal some time, but there had not been many of those recently and Jin doesn't know, so he can't change during those times.
