"happy birthday, dear Edith." carter kissed her daughter's forehead, smiling at the young girl.
it was Edith's birthday, her 10th birthday. it was their first birthday without her loving mother, Eleanor.
"thank you, papa. I just really wish mother was here."
"she is. here." carter gently tapped the girl's chest, Edith smiled brightly as she understood.

it was the night of her birthday and she couldn't sleep. it was quiet and dark, normally she would be snoring away but for some reason, even though she was tired she couldn't sleep.
that's when she heard it, the soft rattling of the door knob and a series of soft thuds on the door.
she sat up, curious.
and it came in, floating off the floors.
she laid back down, shaken up.
only when she thought it was gone, it grabbed her on the arm and spoke.
"When the time comes, beware of the Crimson Peak."
