The twenty rules of Wolf Law were said to be divinely inspired by Lupus, the most important of the gods. They govern all aspects of wolf society in the valley. They are:
1. It is forbidden to kill another wolf unless they are invading your territory. Strive to injure and not kill unless they give you no choice.
2. It is forbidden to hurt a Gamma or to send them out to battle.
3. Inferior wolves must obey their superiors' orders and eat after them. If you do not have the courage to challenge them, then you must accept your lower status.
4. A wolf of any rank older than 12 moons who is not a Shaman may challenge their superior to a fight for their position. The fight must go on until one participant is severely injured. The loser moves down a rank, the winner moves up one. If both are severely injured, they maintain their ranks.
5. Outside a challenge, pack mates must not fight each other.
6. It is illegal to challenge a wolf who is injured or pregnant.
7. It is illegal to challenge the high alpha unless you are his heir.
8. If the challenge is legal, the superior must accept.
9. All pups must be cared for. Pups on their own must be accepted into the pack until their mother is found.
10. All wolves may have relationships, but it is forbidden for any wolf to have pups unless they are beta or alpha. If this rule is broken, the criminals must be driven out of the valley, their pups can be adopted if the alpha or beta female wishes.
11. Pregnant wolves not of your pack must be driven away to prevent overpopulation.
12. Wolves that are no longer beta and alpha and have pups must leave their pack with their pups unless the alpha or beta wishes to adopt them.
13. A Shaman may not refuse to treat an injured patient, regardless of pack..
14. Honor the prey you catch, it was created by the gods too.
15. The punishment for breaking Wolf Law is decided by the alpha except for forbidden litters. It can be humiliation, an apology, withdrawal of food, demotion in rank, hunting and cleaning for another wolf and their family, community service, and, for the most serious crimes, exile.
16. An alpha is succeeded by their beta. If an alpha dies without a beta, the new alpha is decided by a challenge. A beta who dies is also replaced with a challenge amongst wolves who want the rank.
17. A new beta or alpha must be found within a moon's time or the high alpha will appoint his own choices.
18. Only male wolves related to the high alpha may succeed him.
19. If the high alpha is murdered by his heir, any remaining son succeeds him instead. If there are no sons left, his brothers and their pups may succeed him. If all brothers are dead, The Augur will choose a new high alpha from the ranks of the Pack of Lightning.
20. It is forbidden to attack anything at The Summit. This sacred space should not be profaned by wolves' blood.
