Kaylie's POV
"Hello mamacita!" Suarez smiles as I passed by him in the garages.
"Hi Daniel! How are you?" I stopped beside his car.
"I am good, I am good. How are you doing with Ross?"
"I'm doing good. I'm really hoping he gets this win today, no offense to you-" I quickly stopped unsure if I had offended my friend. He waved it off and motioned for me to continue. "He's been so close and to getting a win I know it would boost his confidence tremendously."
"I understand you have been with him throughout his entire life, yes? And his racing career?"
"I've tried to be. Ross means a lot to me, and I've been doing my best to encourage him every day to be the best he can possibly be."
"He's lucky to have a cheerleader like you, Kaylie." Suarez pats my shoulder, as his crew chief motions for him to come towards him. "I will see you before the race, yes?"
"Of course! Bye Daniel!" I gave him a wave and turned my heals towards Ross's garage stall.
I smiled and said hello to all the drivers and technicians that passed by and said hello. I was well known around the track, and was also known to help out around the garages regardless of the team. I was just an all around well liked person, and I wasn't even employed in Nascar. I had finished my online schooling, and Ross always took time out of his schedule to make sure I understood what I was learning. Sometimes he'd stay up all night with me while I did my homework, and he always made sure I ate on the days I'd be busy for the entire 12 hours.
I owed Ross quite a bit, and I always told myself one day I'd pay him back. Anything Ross every needs I will be damn sure he gets it.
I looked around the garage, it was now almost time for the pre race ceremonies.
"Kaylie! Thank god you're here!" Ross's crew chief came running towards me.
"What? What happened?" I asked, suddenly getting a sinking feeling in my stomach.
"Ross is no where to be found and we need him on pit road in half an hour for the race." He says, his eyes wide in panic.
"I'll look for him, has anyone checked his motorhome?"
"No. Go look there!" He says, turning away and resumed looking for him. It wasn't like Ross to disappear right before a race, let alone to be in his moment to shine. I ran to the other side of the track, and knocked on the door of his motorhome.
"Ross?" I heard a faint gasp, as if someone had been startled. "Ross it's me Kaylie! You're crew chief is looking for you." I prayed he wasn't in there with another woman. One thing I'd never live down is if Ross knew I was deeply in love with him. I had only discovered it recently, and was still accepting it.
"Come in." I heard, and opened the door slowly. Ross was sitting there on the couch, manspreading and looking completely defeated. My heart broke into pieces to see him like this as I shut the door behind me.
"Ross." I said softly. "What's wrong?" I sat down beside him, placing my hand on his knee. I had completely forgotten my earlier thought about another woman being in here.
"Kaylie I really want this win." He says after a few moments of silence. "But I'm scared I'm going to let my team down, my boss, everyone. I'm scared I'm going to let you down." Ross slowly looked up at me into my eyes. I put my hand on his shoulder, pulling him to sit up and then pulling him closer so I could hug him.
"Ross." I cooed, "You're not going to let anyone down. You're an amazing driver and you're going to get your well deserved and earned win. You have been incredibly close lately and I can tell you right now that your win is coming sooner than you think."
