Kylie's POV

I knew Alex was feeling like shit by now and we're only half way through the race. As I sat in his motorhome I could only imagine how tired and dehydrated he must be. I decided I'd go check in with my uncle who coincidently was Alex's crew chief, Greg Ives.

I slipped on some flip flops, grabbed my phone, sunglasses, and headed out the door. I walked through the parking lot and into the garages just behind pit road. I found Alex's pit box and climbed up and sat beside Greg.

"Hey Kiddo." He smiles, wrapping his arm around me. "Yes it is." He says on the radio. "He just asked if it was you." Greg chuckles.

"How's he doing?" I asked, watching as Alex crossed the finish line and kept going.

"He's hanging in there, but he's overheating. Alex doesn't do well when we keep changing the climate like this." Greg explains. "He says hello by the way." I smiled as Greg told Alex my response.

"He needs to focus." I slowly looked at Greg.

"I know you're worried about him, but he needs you to be strong right now. I need you to be strong for him, the first person he's going to want to see is you when this is all over. So go get some food and a drink, and go relax in his motorhome." He says, hugging me. I nodded, slowly standing up as I took the hand of Dustin, Alex's tire changer, who helped me down from the pitbox.

I said a quick thank you and headed towards concessions. I bought myself a sandwich and a sweet tea, then headed back to his motorhome and ate as I watched the rest of the race.

As Alex was being interviewed, I got a call from Greg.

"He's wondering where you are. Can you meet him in his garage?"

"On my way." I replied, hanging up, grabbing Alex a water and bolting out the door towards the garage. As I came near the garages I slowed down to a fast walk. I looked everywhere, keeping a look out for him. I was determined to be there for Alex, just as he was there for me during the time I broke my leg. It had been a long 6 months but everyday Alex told me I was a strong, independent woman. And as each day went on I began to believe him. And now it was my turn.

I found Alex leaning against the wall, unzipping his fire suit and quickly looking for an escape.

"Alex!" I walked towards him, handing him his water bottle.

"Hey." He says, drenched in sweat and completely out of breath.

"Let's get you out of the heat." I said softly, waiting for him to finish his water he was chugging like his life depended on it. He gently took my hand allowing me to lead him back to his motorhome. I held open the door for him, and sat him down on the couch.

"You should take a shower and a nap, honey." I suggested, keeping my voice low. From what he had told me, Alex was suffering from a heat stroke. He was overheating which was obvious, but he also had a headache. "Later I'll make dinner." I offered. Alex looked as if he was debating arguing with me, but gave in and headed towards the bathroom. I lowered the temperature in his RV, and darkened his bedroom.

I felt so bad for Alex. He looked so miserable and all I wanted to do was hold him in my arms and protect him from the world. But I knew right now he needed water and some rest.

As Alex finished up getting dressed and coming out of the bathroom, I offered him cold water in a yeti cup, to my surprise he took it and allowed me to lead him into his bedroom. I turned on the lamp watching it cast a soft glow in his bedroom. I pulled the blanket back, then backed up so Alex could get into bed. Alex placed his cup on his nightstand, and sat on the  edge of the bed, taking both my hands in his and pulling my body closer, then pressing his forehead to my stomach.

"I feel like shit." He mumbles. I let go of one of his hands, and began running my fingers through his hair.

"I know Alex." I said softly. "I wish I could make it go away. All I can offer you right now is water, tylenol, and anything else you need."

"I need you." He pouts. I couldn't help but smile, sometimes he reminded me of a toddler. I chuckled a little, moving away to go grab the tylenol for him. "I'm not kidding, Kylie." I heard him say from the bedroom.

"I know." I answered, walking back into the bedroom and handed him the bottle. "And I'm never going anywhere. I'll always be here when you need me." I smiled softly, kissing his forehead.

"I honestly have no idea how I got so lucky to have the best girlfriend in the whole world." Alex says, fighting to stay awake and talk to me.

"I'm the lucky one." I said softly, nodding for him to lay down. I pulled the blanket over him, making sure he was comfortable. "I'll come check on you in a little bit, I've got some homework to do. But I'll be in the living room if you need me."

"Okay." He answers softly. I'm pretty sure I heard him snoring before I even left the room. I closed the door softly, and sat on his couch with my laptop and the TV playing some romantic drama that was on. I was kind of a sucker for romantic dramas.

A few hours later I got hungry, so I finished up my homework and headed towards the mini fridge to see what Alex had to work with for a home cooked meal. I found some ingredients to make a rice dish, so that's what I did. It wasn't anything fancy, but the way I plated it made it look like something you would find at a five-star restaurant. I set the plates on the little table, and gently knocked on Alex's bedroom door before entering.

"Alex." I cooed softly. "I made dinner. Do you want any?" I had walked over and kissed his cheek. Alex hummed and slowly got out of bed, taking my hand as I led him out of his bedroom and into the main area. I sat him down, refilled his cup with water, and sat down across from him.

"This looks amazing." He says, still half asleep.

"Thank you." I smiled, taking a bite. "Do you like it?" I asked as he took a bite. His face lit up a little, as he nodded vigorously. I chuckled as he began shoveling spoonfuls into his mouth. "Careful." I giggled. After dinner was done, I cleared the table, cleaned the stove, the counter, and the dishes, then sat next to Alex on the couch.

"I swear your cooking could cure anything. I'm starting to feel better already." Alex gushes.

"Thank you, Alex." I turned my head to look at him as he put his arm around me. I placed my hand on his chest and layed my head on his shoulder.

"I love you, Kylie." He says after a few minutes of silence.

"I love you, Alex." I smiled, lifting my head up and looking into Alex's grey eyes. Alex leaned in slowly, and our lips met. It felt like heaven and I never wanted to leave.
