I decline the call and look at the text, nothing more than a coincidence. Amber did text me, saying that Jean left. I finish up breakfast for us and Venti eats away happily. "Don't you have band practice or something soon?" Venti checks his phone and he gasps.
"It's already 12!? How..! You left my car at the bar didn't you??? I'm gonna be late." Venti scrambles to get himself together, leaving half of his breakfast uneaten. "Err.. it's at the park if you don't mind driving..!" I sigh and put on my jacket.
"Alright, just make sure Kazuha or Aether drives you back." He nods and rushes out the door, and swings the door of my car open. Forgot to lock it last night it seems, whoopsies. I get in, and speed just a little, to find Aether greeting Kazuha at the park. "See, you're not late." He sighs in relief. I watch him get out of the car and then see Jean and Diluc by one of the benches. She seems a little awkward as he gives her the turtle plush. I don't stick around any longer and head back to Amber's. I see she's back to painting her teacup.
"Oh hey, I didn't hear you come in." She smiles softly at me. "I saw you finished yours so.." She laughs nervously. "Sorry for kinda dipping on you yesterday, I really did forget she asked to hang out." She scratches her head.
"It's fine." I sit on the floor with her. "I chilled with Venti last night, and ended up driving him to band practice. I swear... that guy gives me headaches beyond belief." A chuckle escapes, however it turns into letting out a sigh more than anything.
"How do you like painting Amber? I know you told me you took a few classes in high school." She thinks for a moment smiling. "Maybe we should do more projects like these."
"Want to tie-dye shirts sometime? I know it's been less popular lately, but it seems like fun. I remember Kaeya was in the 'advanced' art class, instead of beginners intro. Being in his class was fun, he was always trying to lighten things up in there. I was surprised he took an art major however, it seemed like he wasn't the type really. More language learning route.." She went to high school with Kaeya? I know a lot of them did, but most met in college. From what I heard at least. "I really did like painting, and seeing Kaeya start his own class really made me want to start learning it again. However, his prices were a little.."
"High. Very, but I loved painting. Seeing the class being so close in town I jumped at the chance. I regretted not getting an art degree, but I guess my current one is fine." I laugh slightly. "Nice to see you still have some talent left over."
She finishes up a couple of strokes before replying. "Since you took Kaeya's classes, mind giving me a few tips and tricks?" His classes ran for hours, but they were enjoyable. As I'm about to get behind Amber to see if she really needed any tips my phone rings. Does Venti need something!? It's only been 30ish minutes since I've seen him! I grab my phone and see it's Diluc calling. I decline it and get behind Amber.
"Use this brush for the petals," grabbing a smaller and finer brush I hand it to her, "and if you need me to get you a new cup of water I'll be here." I grab her arm and slowly lead her when she starts the stream of water. "Make it bubble on the rocks." As I sit behind her I start braiding her hair, only to realize I don't have a hair band. I head over to the bathroom, Amber concentrating too much to notice. I grab a hairband and head back, only to hear my phone ringing. Amber heading over to see who was calling.
"It's Diluc, are you sure you don't want to answer?" This is the third time today, but I've seen all I needed to. Our break.. he wants to officially break up. I don't think I can handle that right now. I'm not sure I want to deal with it either.
"I'm sure, he can call back later if it's really important. Not sure what else there is left to say." I grab the phone and press decline. I silence my phone and sit back down. My back pressing against the couch, the floor not being all too comfortable. Amber sits back down, some paint getting on our carpet. She's too focused so I don't point it out. I run my fingers through her hair to untangle the now messy braid.
Once she finishes up the last teacup I look down at the plain saucers, which I hadn't bothered to do. It's 2, since lasts night rain it's been chilly, but I wouldn't mind going out. "What should we do about the saucers?" She questions. She sets the teacup on a drying rack.
"I was thinking maybe just coloring them a main color? If we need a different color I don't mind buying it." She looks over at the teacups and then our sad collection of paint. She thinks for a moment and smiles.
"We'll figure it out!" She starts mixing a few colors and I follow suit. By the time we finish it's been a whole other two hours, mixing didn't go as planned for a moment. "Well... we figured it out?" She laughs as she sees the colors of paint we managed to make.
"Wanna eat something? Let's get takeout. I'm not sure if we have a lot left in the fridge and I'm not sure if I feel like popping by the store after that." I get up and stretch. My ass hurts from sitting on the floor, even with the couch supporting my back I feel awful.
"Sure! What should we get." She carefully places our saucers on the rack and stares down at her phone. "Maybe something that won't take too long.." She scrolls through and her face lights up. "We haven't had In and Out in forever!"
By the time we've finished eating I'm ready to hit the hay. I tell Amber I'm heading to my room and promptly head in. I lay back on my bed and close my eyes, I don't understand how I can be so tired. I've barely done anything today. I look through my phone and my phone suddenly freezes. Soon it says I'm getting a call from Diluc. I pick up, I don't understand why he needs to tell me so badly. "(Y/N), we need to talk, don't ignore my calls anymore." My grip on my phone tightens.
"I know.. I know it's over Diluc, I haven't seen you look so happy in so long. You know, I know, that whatever we were doing wasn't working. There was no need to call me over this, goodbye." I hang up, not wanting to hear anymore from him. Tears fall from my eyes slowly and start picking up. I start sobbing into my pillow, angry at myself mostly. Once morning comes I decide to bring me and Amber a coffee, taking a walk and clear my head.
As I'm about to reach the sidewalk leading to her house, I can feel my phone buzz. Just as I'm about to pull it out rain starts to drop again. It's supposed to rain most of this month. I'm sure Amber will appreciate her coffee. I head inside and find she's watching some TV. She smiles upon seeing me. I hand her, her coffee and sit down to relax with her.
"Thanks, I have to head off to work soon. So don't spoil the last half alright!" She says in a somewhat threatening voice, but she's too cute for it to really have any effect. Once the time comes she waves goodbye, her half finished coffee in her hand. I decide to turn off the TV, we can catch up on it together. I turn to the kitchen and see Amber went shopping. I decide to fix myself a comfort meal, not wanting to think about anything. I just need a day to myself. I hear my phone ring, I forgot about it. I hope it isn't Venti asking for something. I look at the caller ID to find it's Diluc. I watch it ring, unsure of what to do. Is he going to give me a piece of his mind? What else does he have to say. As it's on its last ring I pick it up.
"..." I can't muster the courage to say something, and it seems like neither can he. Unfortunately staring at the name I put for him in my phone all of my feelings rush back. With a shaky voice I speak. "I don't want to talk to you anymore Diluc, please stop making this hard. I'll be silencing my phone now, goodbye." My voice breaking on every other word. I soon eat my comfort food and then head to the couch. I look over to the teacups and lay back. I deserve a little more sleep.
I'm awoken my the sound of the doorbell, I look toward the open curtains. It's raining and it's rather dark? Did I sleep for that long??? Did Amber forget her house key? I hope she hasn't been waiting out there too long. I hurry to go open the door only to find it's Diluc. Drenched, a bouquet of my favorite flowers and chocolate. I shut the door immediately, not letting him get a word in. "(Y/N)," his voice is firm, "please listen to me for a moment." Why is he going to be the one to apologize? It's my fault, why is he apologizing.
