The underground has been a dangerous place ever since the famine. You were both lucky enough to have fallen down there before the bloodlust began, and unlucky enough to go through the famine firsthand with your friends.

As food began to disappear, everyone grew desperate for something to eat. It's been a long time since the famine began, and you could feel the eyes of the monsters you knew as your friends starting to turn hungrier and hungrier for something... Anything... to satisfy them.

The only one who hasn't viewed you any different is Sans. He always made sure that you and his brother were taken care of and safe, more so now that Queen Undyne has proved she will do anything to solve her problems... including attacking Sans, injuring him permanently.

You walked next to Sans, making your way back to his house, one of the safest places for you since Undyne's new law. Ever since she enacted it, you'd been in more danger than ever of being attack by your old friends. This law was to capture, kill, or turn in any humans who come across the underground, you were no exception despite the fact that you had been here before the famine began, suffering alongside the monsters.

Night was falling, the only light fading. You felt panic rise in your chest as you noticed, knowing full well that you couldn't protect yourself in the dark. "Not far now. Stay close." Sans pointed out in a low tone, his pace quickening.

He was holding his signature axe close, ready to use it if need be. You felt yourself walk closer to him now, heart racing. Just like he had said, it didn't take long to reach the familiar glow of the skeleton brother's house.

You rushed inside, Sans watching carefully as he entered and locked the door. Papyrus was sitting on the couch, waiting patiently for the two of you. Although he too was concerned for you, he still had his moments. The look in his eyes told you he was still okay for you.

"Human, you're okay." Pap sighs in relief, "I was worried you wouldn't make it back in time."

"Yeah, I'm okay. Just some problems in town." You informed him, recalling how the shop keepers tried to trick you into getting too close for comfort, "Thankfully, Sans helped me out."

Sans nods, "No one's gonna hurt you if I have anything to say about it." He nudged you gently, purring slightly as you hug his arm.

Papyrus hugs you both, picking you up easily. You chuckled a little at how affectionate the two were, almost like they were just big puppies.

Pap put you down and pats your head, "Human, you need rest." He then turned to his brother, "You too. I know you don't sleep well."

Sans rolled his eye a little in a playful way, "I know, I know. C'mon (Y/N)." He takes your hand and you follow him upstairs. As you reached the top of the steps you started to feel a little on edge again. Sans noticed this and turns to face you, worriedly, "You okay?"

"Yeah, just a little anxious." You told him, knowing you shouldn't feel that way, you were safe here. It just came on so suddenly that you couldn't shake it.

"Would you feel better if you slept in my room?" Sans asked, wishing to help you the best he could. He gave a gentle smile as you slightly nod. Sending you off to his room, he goes and gets some extra pillows and blankets for you.

You watched as Sans clears up some space so that the room didn't seem so crowded and messy, even though you didn't mind at all. "You can take the bed." He instructed as he finished throwing clothes into his closet and began setting out the blanket and pillows into the floor.

"It's your bed, you should have it. I don't mind, I'm invading your space after all."

"No, you feel unsafe. The bed is for you, it's more comfortable." He grumbled in argument, crossing his arms at your rebuttal.

You looked down, feeling bad that you basically were invading his space. He sighed at seeing your sad expression and puts the extra pillow on the bed. He sits down and pats next to him to invite you over. He noticed your hesitation, "We can share. That way neither one of us feels guilty."

You smile at him sitting beside him and wrapping yourself in one of the blankets, feeling a warmth spread across your body. No matter how bad things got he was always so kind to you. It was nice.
He puts an arm around you protectively and you relax against him. "Thank you, Sans." You whispered as you started to yawn.

Sans' steady breathing was lulling you to sleep, and the warmth of his embrace invited you to dream. Soon you feel asleep against him.
He props himself up against the wall with you laying his chest. You looked so peaceful and calm like this. It was like your tense and ready to act demenor faded into a content stillness. He felt his face grow warm as you wrapped your arms around him like a pillow. Now that you were calm and asleep, Sans knew he did his job in making you feel safe.

"Nothing's gonna harm you, not while I'm around." He promises and rubs your back gently as he too drifted to sleep, purring gently against you. You snuggled up to him a little more, smiling in your sleep as you heard the calm rumble in his chest.

The next morning you woke up, laying ontop of Sans' chest as he held you close to him. You're face grew warm with blush as you tried to pull free without waking him. He growled a little as you started to pull back, still being protective over you as he slept. You were trapped in his embrace.

Accepting defeat, you rest crossed your arms over his chest and rested your head on them, watching him quietly. "You big teddy bear," you mumble, listening to his snoring with a smile. Soon he started to stir, waking up.

He opened his eyes and smiled when he saw you, "Morning, Dear." He yawns and sits up, as you move off of him. "Did you sleep well?"

You nod, "Yup. I slept fine. How about you?"

"I slept good."

"Did you know you're a big cuddle bug when you sleep?"

"You're one to talk."

The two of you laughed a little as you recalled how you fell asleep and woke up this morning in eachother's arms. It felt nice, you wanted to do it again. The look on his face as the laughter faded told you he thought the same.

"Thank you for letting me stay in here last night," You rub the back of your neck to try and hide your embarrassment.

He shifts his weight a little, "Anytime. That was honestly the best night sleep I've had in a while."

Without thinking, you pressed a gentle kiss to Sans' cheekbone, making the two of you blush. "Maybe we should do this more often, then."
