The cleanse day arrived, and as always Charlie and her family were secure in the palace while she heard the screams of her people all over the streets of the pride ring. Even on the radio she heard all the news being shared. People running, even in the studio, until the radio cuts its connection and there's only static noises.
This day always bugged her and filled the Princess with anger. They didn't do anything to help, there's not even a shelter where sinners and demons could go to be secure... Each year she saw her people dying without doing anything. There was one time, a few decades ago, where Charlie tried to let the palace gates open so their people could find shelter, but Lilith and Lucifer prohibited this action of hers.
For years, even not being able to help, Charlie tried. Tried to convince her dad to help the sinners somehow but he never did.
"They are getting what they deserve." Her dad always said, but this time, she didn't even try to talk to him.
Charlie felt so frustrated that she couldn't gather answers this year, that she wanted it to just end as soon as possible so she could go where the sinners arrived. She was excited and she was hopeful she would be able to do something.
But now, she was having lunch with her parents.
"Apple pie, are you having more nightmares since that last one?" Lucifer asked as an imp was serving him more wine.
"Huh?" Charlie was creating all the possible reactions in her mind when she found the new arrived sinners. All the notes she could get, all the answers...
"Are you having any more nightmares?" Lucifer asked again, sipping his wine while looking at his daughter. Lilith was also looking at her, curious.
"No, that one was the last one I had... No more nightmares." She smiled widely. She didn't tell her parents what exactly she dreamed of, but they seemed oddly worried for some reason.
Lucifer looked at Lilith discreetly and then back to Charlie.
"I'm glad to hear that, Apple pie." Lucifer was cutting the meat on his plate. "What are your plans for today?"
Charlie frowned. Lucifer barely asked her what plans she had, but since the cleanse day came and she didn't say anything to him for the first year, he began to ask her what she planned to do.
"I was thinking of going to the 'Center Of Newly Arrived Sinners' today." Charlie said without thinking.
"Why...?" Lilith and Lucifer asked in unison. When she noticed their reaction, Charlie made a face and shrunk her shoulders.
"I'm doing some research on why sinners go here." She sipped her wine.
"Well, they deserve it, of course." Lucifer eats a bit more of his food while watching her.
"I know... But I want to understand why they deserve it... I want to understand how much problems they caused in the living world." She was slicing her food to eat. She was almost done.
"Oh, you will see all what they already do here, dear. Murder, bad choices, abuse, nothing that we already don't see down here, apple pie." Lucifer was talking calmly.
"Still... I want to talk to them." Charlie chewed her food and drank more of her wine.
"I think it will be useless." Lucifer said, convinced and with a bored face. Lilith looked at her husband and placed her hand over his leg.
"Even if it is, I need to know."
"You won't find anything you need." Lucifer insisted and Lilith pressed a bit more into his leg.
