Looking at the poetry, Wang Ji could tell that master Xu really deserved his reputation. Since Wu Xian and Wen Ning left, master Xu started to relay stories from his past and Wang Ji got to hear about his parents more than he had ever been able to before. Especially about his mother. The only person who would talk about her with him at Cloud Recesses was his brother, who also was just a kid back then. The other elders at Cloud Recesses would never even mention her and would only barely talk about his father because they were scared of offending the grand master. And it was not like Wang Ji to go around deliberately asking other adults about his parents even though he desperately wanted to know. So, he was really grateful that master Xu did, without even him asking for it.
Master Xu was telling him about how his father had snuck out of a class to go and see a beautiful maiden (who happened to be their mother) and was caught by master Xu. He had made many ridiculous excuses before finally begging master Xu not to tell his family. Master Xu laughed so heartily after saying that Wang Ji couldn't help but crack a smile.
"Ah Wang Ji," master Xu said, again digging through the pile of his poetry. "Why don't you read this poem? It's about the mountain of Cloud Recesses. Read it and let me know what you think."
Wang Ji gladly took the paper from him and started reading. But before he could get beyond the second line, there was a strong wave of energy that bashed into their bodies. But withing seconds it was gone. "Master Xu?"
"Someone must have offended the barrier." After looking troubled for a few seconds, master Xu laughed. "It must be your friend. I told that little brat not to go near the tombs now, didn't I? He is not one who follows rules now, is he?"
"Master, Wei Wu Xian would not cause any damage. He is a curious person, but he means no harm. I will go and make him leave the cemetery and if anything is damaged, we will build it back together." Wang Ji said feeling guilty.
"Wang Ji, it is not the cemetery I'm worried about. These tombs are hundreds of years old and have malicious energies manifesting within them. Generation after generation my family have tried to calm them down or get rid of the tombs. But they have only managed to put on barriers that could keep the energy trapped inside. The graves within are not so welcoming. Guess my ancestors didn't use to be the welcoming type. I do not know what they would do to master Wei. This is why I asked you to not go near it. They are even more hostile to strangers." Seeing Wang Ji's face go white he added. "Do not worry much. If master Wei did not intend any harm, which I do not think he did, the ancestors won't punish him so severely. But I have a feeling that they would do something he might not forget that easily. So, the sooner we can find him the better."
Wang Ji got up immediately and followed master Xu. He would not let anything happen to Wu Xian. He did not care whether he had to fight dozens of corpses or ancestor spirits and whether they were the ancestors of master Xu. He will kill them all.
Wu Xian tried his best to move. Now he could smell something as well. Something like a rotten smell but not exactly. It smelled like dried fish too. He opened his mouth. If he can scream loud enough, Wang Ji's sensitive years might hear him. Or if he could whistle, he would be able to summon Wen Ning. But his lips felt stiffer than ever. And his throat was parched. Heaving a sigh, he tried to move his arm again. This time he felt it moving with a shock of pain. And a weird sound. He gritted his teeth preparing for the pain and moved his arm upwards. This time it gave in more easily and lifted, but only to be stopped by a barrier that was only inched away from him. He tried to stretch it to the side, again only to be restricted by the same kind of barrier. Was he trapped? Fear started flaming again making him panic.
He still wanted to make sure whether his eyes were opened or not. The only option was to raise his arm up along his body. So, he did. Again, only to be stopped by... wait what was that? This time it was something on top of his body. On top of his stomach to be exact. But he didn't feel anything being on his stomach. He moved his arm again. And it hit that object again. But... did he just...? He felt that impact on his belly as well. But how? Wait, was the thing that hit his arm and stopped it was actually his belly? But... but he could swear his belly wasn't that big. This felt like a huge lump. No way. That's not possible. Sect leader Jiang sure had again and again warned him that excessive drinking can make your stomach bulge. But... but Wu Xian trained very well making sure he would never get a potbelly. Was he loafing that much at Cloud Recesses to the point his stomach grew this much? No way, there's no way... He made sure his drinking would never lead to this...
