2 HOURS BEFORE

It was an autumn night with dark purple clouds, but no rain. The young boy who spent his precious hours by crouching on a large tree root since the calm dawn, tipped his head back to catch the view of the scattered stars— he only spots a few, winking at him in such way that he wishes a woman would use the same method to flirt with him.

It's not like he was some sort of creep for having this thought, he was just bored to death.

"Just how much longer do I have to wait here..." he sighed as his orange strands were swept across his face, tickling some of his nerves down.

"You really take your time, huh, Kanao-oneesan? How could you leave me, your future husband, all alone here in the dark for almost 5 hours?"

Though, he likes it here for some reason. Maybe because it's pitch dark, veiled by lack of any sound of wild life and only faint whispers of the wind kept him awake in both mind and soul. There's a side of him that he himself was afraid of; the fondness to stay alone, unharmed in darkness.

He uses that opportunity to appreciate Kanao's absence, this place is good for him. By any means necessary, he would get rid of the scary voices by himself, spinning around his head like a broken tape for years since he was left alone.

One fateful day in winter, he was taken by Akari.

And she has given him the honour to be her adopted younger brother.

And with Akari's golden deeds, he's free for torture.

The torture of being left alone in the dark, although he was craving to have that feeling crawls against his freezing skin.

Hou Keisuke accepted his fate onwards. As long as Akari kept her promise, to stay by his side for another year to come, or until he successfully held the title of an official member of the Demon Slayer Corps.

"I'm having a bad feeling about this," Kei meant that to the issues about Kanao.

He was assigned by Akari to accompany Kanao for some favour, and yet the lilac eyed demon just ordered him to stay here and wait for her to come back perhaps before sunrise. What was she expecting? That he's going to stay idle there for the whole night?
