“Jade! We have people coming to see us!” Sarah yelled out at me as I walked in to the large room where others like me would relax. The parents either sat close to their children or at the dining table with other parents and caregivers. “Doctor Martin said they were bringing us surprises as well!” She spoke out happily while I sat down next to her on the couch. Sarah was having one of those bad days were she couldn’t walk.

“Did they say who was coming darling?” I asked as Sarah slowly slid herself on to my lap, I wrapped an arm around her while I pulled the blanket over her again. Sarah had been here for just over a month, her birth parents passed when she was young, which led her to be adopted by a lovely couple. They would do anything that Sarah asked, which was nothing really. Sarah just wanted to have what fun she could while she could. Sarah shook her head no; I could tell that she didn’t have the energy today.

“Once upon a time.” I started, which caused some of the other children to gather around Sarah and myself. “Once upon a time, there was a beautiful princess whom was blessed with long blonde locks. Every day she would brush those locks a hundred times. Men would come from far lands just to be able to lay eyes on the beauty that she held. Golden skin, lushes red lips and a singing voice more pure then heaven itself.” I spoke smiling at all the children who had now sat down in front of the couch. From the corner of my eye I could see Doctor Martin and five other guys with him walk in to the room.

“One day the beautiful princess took a talk around the kingdom, ladies would smile at her, men would bow when she walked past but the children would run up to her and give her flowers. By the end of her walk she had reached the outskirts of the kingdom, her arms were full of flowers that children had given her. A young man with brown hair caught the eye of the princess; he had a small kitten in his arms while there were puppies at his feet. When the young man saw the princess he almost dropped the poor kitten, this caused the princess to smile. She had found a man who did not bow at her or ask for her hand in marriage. “Could I interest you in a kitten my lady?” The boy asked while he walked towards her. “Do you know who I am?” The princess replied, shocked at how he had spoken to her. “Of course I do Princess. Is it a crime to offer you a kitten?” The boy laughed softly as he sat the kitten down on the ground. The princess laid the large amount of flowers on the ground next to the kitten.” The children looked at me excited to see what would happen next. As I looked up I noticed Dr. Martin smiling at me while the five boys about my ages were sitting on chair looking interested in my story.

“The Princess could not believe how unaffected the boy was by her beauty. “Would you please assort me back to the palace?” She asked while smiling down at the kitten. “Of course my lady, I need to head that way anyways.” The young boy picked up the kitten and linked his arm with the Princess’s. Together they walked back in to the kingdom, once again ladies would smile at her but the men would look around confused while whispering. Children would slowly follow after the Princess and the young man. Once the Princess was back at her palace the young boy handed her the kitten. At first she was confused as to why she was holding the kitten. “I have done my job my lady. You are safely home and the kitten also has it’s new home.” The farmer boy spoke while he bowed down to the King and Queen. “But the kitten needs the love of two not one. Shall you not stay?” The princess asked while hugging the small kitten. “I shall stay for the kitten and the care you show for another, Princess.” The young boy spoke happily. Years down the track when that kitten had grown up in to a strong cat, the Princess and the young farmer boy were still together. Happily married with little kittens of their own make. Happiness filled the kingdom when ever the Princess was happy.” I glanced down at Sarah to see her sleeping in my arms. “The end.” I finished the story as I looked up at the smiling children.

“Story time is over children.” Dr. Martin spoke from behind them; they all turned and looked at him then at the five boys standing next to him. “We have some guests children, would you please make them feel welcome.” He continued to speak as I looked down at Sarah once more and smiled. She had an extremely hard week with being in and out of hospital, I was sure that her parents were enjoy the relaxing time that they had for now.

“Hello.” A boy’s voice spoke from in front of me, I glanced up at the nameless boy who sat in front of me. “My names Julian, I loved the story you told the kids. It must be hard to be around these kids some times.” Julian spoke as he glanced down at Sarah sleeping in my arms.

“Her names Sarah. I’m Jade and stories are some of the only things that make these children smile some days.” I spoke as Sarah began to move in my arms slightly, I smiled as she buried her head in to my chest like it was a pillow. “We don’t normally get visitors, so why are you here?” I asked without looking up.

“The boys and I are doing some charity work, we thought about what we wanted to do and my mother suggested that we raise money for houses like these.” Julian spoke, what he had said caused me to look up at him slightly confused. “Were in a boy band.” He scratched his head lightly while looking around. For the first time I took a good look at the boy. He had brilliant bright eyes that stood out on his lightly tanned skin. His hair was dark it looked almost black in the dim lights, he had facial hair but it was only under his chin that stretched across his face to his side burns. There was something about his face and his eyes that drew me in to him; it was like I had these feelings bubbling up inside me.

“You picked a good cause. The families here need as much help as what the children do.” I spoke as my eyes drifted over to Sarah’s mother who was walking towards me with a sad smile on her lips. “Hello Ms. Brown, how are her charts?” I asked once she was standing behind Julian.

“They aren’t sure, one day they say she is getting better the next they say she wont have very long. We are running out of options Jade, how do you do it?” She asked me while she softly took Sarah from my arms.

“Good company, stories and with a little pinch of hope.” I spoke as I slowly stood up. “We all have things to loose Ms. Brown but I’m sure Sarah will be healthy once more.” I smiled as she nodded at me and slowly walked over to Dr. Martin who had a complex face on.

“Would you go out with me?” Julian asked from beside me, I looked at him stunned. “I understand we don’t know each other but I thought it would be fun?” He continued, I looked behind him at Holly who obviously had heard what he asked because she was giving me the thumbs up.

“Okay. Tomorrow at Café Le Du, Say 11am?” I asked as I saw my mother walk in to the room with my ex boyfriend. “I’ll see you there. Now if you would excuse me.” I breathed as I walked over to Holly who looked just as shaken up as what I did.

“I don’t know Jade, it looks like he’s here to see you.” Holly spoke as I reached her; she took a hold of my hand as we watched my mother and Josh walk through the room. As they neared the entrance I saw Josh grab a hold of my mothers hand tightly. “Looks like I was wrong.” Holly breathed out as we watched them kiss.
