You killed I-sak...

Hye-wol felt nothing when she was writing I-sak's death. She didn't even have a second thought when she plot the end of her character arc. She's a writer and I-sak was a cannon fodder on a story she written so why is she feeling guilty now that she died?

Maybe it's because I-sak was so kind towards her. Or maybe because she had a chance to get to know her and prove that she's more than a sacrificial lamb in order for the story to progress. Nonetheless, the guilt and anguish she's feeling is creating an invisible monster that slowly eats her sanity.

Her eyes drifted to On-jo who is being comforted by Hyo-ryeong and Ji-min and the same words that's been haunting her since I-sak death echoes on her mind again.

You killed I-sak...

"Hye-wol ah," Wujin approaches her like how a person would approach a wounded animal, footsteps so light and movements' slow like he was afraid that he'll scare Hye-wol away.

Hye-wol wipe the tears that fell on her cheeks using her sleeves as Wujin sat beside her. The lad places a hand on top of her other hand, using his other hand to cup her cheeks and wipe the tears with his fingers.

"Are you crying because of what happened to I-sak or you're crying because you're scared?" Wujin asks her softly.

Through her tear-clouded eyes, she stare at Wujin's dark pair. There's something on his eyes that when you look at it, it seems like their sucking you in. They're dark like the depths of Mariana Trench but they're full of sparkles like a clear starry night. There's no doubt that Jang Wujin owns the the most beautiful pair of eyes among all of the characters. So beautiful that she didn't mind getting lost as she stare at them.

But she can't even appreciate it because her heart and mind are clouded with guilt and fear.

"Both," she admitted. There's no reason to lie and she didn't feel like bottling her emotion anymore because she's afraid that she'll go insane if she didn't release it, "I feel like it's my fault."

Wujin didn't look confused even for a second but it went unnoticed by Hye-wol because she averted her eyes, choosing to look at her fingers fidgeting the hem of her sleeves instead.

"Hmmm," the lad hummed, tracing circles on her hand. The lack of assurance made Hye-wol even more guilty.

"You don't have to be afraid, I'll protect you," he stated in soft voice, so soft that only them could hear, "You just have to stay with me all the time. I'll make sure that no one will hurt you."

Hye-wol didn't respond, basking in the electrifying feeling of Wujin's rough fingers' on her hand. The lad leans towards her, "Do you promise that you'll stay with us no matter what happen?"

Hye-wol looks up to him, doe eyes glistening with unshed tears, "Can you really protect me?"

Her main priority is to not save anyone but to save herself. It's selfish but she doesn't want to die yet. There's still so many unfinished business that she has--- wants to fulfill, places that she wants to go to and milestones that she wants to experience and celebrate. She lost her life once on her real world and she doesn't want to lose her second chance too.

Wujin smiles at her, "Of course. I won't let a zombie touch even a single strand of your hair."

They say that people's eyes is the mirror of their true emotion. Hye-wol search for any tell-tale sign of bluffing but she found nothing but the clear determination and sincerity. Maybe she could trust him. He did sacrifice himself to save her sister. Maybe minus the sacrificing part, she'll accept. She doesn't want anyone losing their lives for the sake of hers. She's selfish but not that selfish.
