Chapter Nine | Monster

❝I'm only a man with a candle to guide me,

I'm taking a stand to escape what's inside me.

A monster, a monster,

I'm turning to a monster❞

Twenty minutes passed in their silence. No one dared to break it and by then her tears were starting to dry.

"Okay" She said as she broke apart the hug "What's your story now"

"My story" He nodded.

"It all begin about years ago" He started "No, not the disaster. But the love" He smiled sadly maybe at some memory.

"Her name was Sarah. She was the love of my life, if we're talking straight to the point. Do you believe in soul mates Abbie?" He asked but did not wait for her reply as he continued "Well, I do"

"She was my soul mate. We were meant to be. We were everything for each other" She didn't like the way he was talking about her in past tense.

She wanted to ask but he was silent hearing her so it was her turn to do the same.

"We were together for four years. I thought nothing could ever break us. I had family problems. My father and mother fought all the time but I didn't care because I had Sarah for me" He continued tears forming in his eyes now.

"But god took that away from me too, of course" He chuckled sadly as he wiped his tears away from his thumb.

"She was in an accident. Doctor tried their best to save her but ... they couldn't. I prayed. I prayed twenty-four hours a day I cried twenty-fours a day I forget about everything. All that mattered was her"

"But they couldn't save her" He said in a whisper.

"And just like that it was over. My life was over. I had no one else to turn to. I started focusing more on my parents fight and everything become more of a disaster every fucking passing moment and-" He couldn't continue due to his tears.

But he did anyway "I've never been more broken. I cut contact with everyone. All I do is listen to my parents fight all the damn time"

She put a hand on his shoulder but he pushed it away.

"I'm a monster Abbie, I'm a monster. You don't want to get near me" He cried.

She hugged him anyway, and let him.

Because aren't we all monsters?
