"Fine. What's your name? Your real name." Bucky asks as if it's not a big deal, though he assumed it was, at least for Steve. They had just called each other 'you' or insulted each other.
Steve raises an eyebrow.
"Wow. Okay. It's Steven. Steve for short. How 'bout you?" Steve replies.
"James. But people used to call me Bucky. It's a nickname." He mutters, he hadn't wanted to share his nickname but thought that he ought to as Steve did for him.
Steve considers this, looking at Bucky.
"Yeah, I could see that." He says.
Bucky was thinking, he barely heard Steve. Steven. What a nice name. Just Steve, though... better then Bucky. He sits in silence for a while.
"So the boats' nearly finished. Thank goodness, can wait to get off this stupid wasteland." Steve mutters, Bucky stays quiet for a little bit.
"Yeah." He eventually sighs.
When Steve wasn't looking Bucky was studying him. The shape of his nose, the curve of his jawline, his exact hair colour. He couldn't help it. Obviously love messed with the brain. He admitted to it in his head; he loves Steve. He just did. He couldn't explain it, but he just.... did. Although he pretty much guessed that Steve didn't love him back.
'What are you staring at?" Steve asks Bucky curiously, when Bucky was lost in his thoughts Steve had come free from his own and looked up to see Bucky with his eyes trained on him for some reason. Steve knew he liked Bucky now; he just knew. Though he didn't know what to think. Certainly Bucky didn't love him back. Surely he didn't.
"You have dirt or something on your cheek." Bucky lies easily, Steve huffs and wipes at his face with his sleeve. Bucky still watches him.
"Better now?" He asks, turning his cheek for Bucky to see. Bucky nods.
"Yeah. Makes sense though, someone as dirty as you covered in it." He says smoothly and Steve rolls his eyes.
"As if you have an excuse." He scoffs. That's what they did now. Made fun of each other. But honestly, they had gotten nicer with what they said. No longer calling each other swear words or anything. Bucky was pretty glad for that though, because he knew he could be hurtful if he tried, and Steve certainly could.
Neither of them move for a while, just sit in the dark and hear night creatures all around. Steve noticed Bucky watching him from out of the corner of his eye. He pretends not to notice Bucky staring at his lips.
Bucky couldn't tear his eyes away from Steve's lips, which was bad. Stop it, Buck. Stop it now. But he couldn't. Or should I say, wouldn't. Too in love. Suddenly Steve turns around and faces Bucky following his gaze.
'Ah ha! I knew it! You're staring at me!" Steve says triumphantly, Bucky blushes hugely.
"Fine. You wanna know, huh? I like you, Steve. I've grown to love you and I don't care if you feel the same way or not but I do, I love you." Bucky says all in a rush then looks into his lap, blushing.
Steve stares at him and after a few minutes he closes his mouth which had begun to hang open. He didn't quite know how to react; but apparently his mouth did.
Soon he's kissing Bucky, threading his fingers through the long brown hair of the brunette captains'. Bucky, shocked to the core, kisses back with his hand on Steve's back.
