If Only

"If only I had beautiful eyes,"
She said
"Maybe he would love me
And his hate would fade."

"If only I was something I'm not,"
She prayed
"Maybe good would come
And my problems would go away."

"If only the world took me as I am,"
She asked
"Cause then I could be who I am
at last."

-Kay

In this poem I see my self not as narrator but as the girl. For many years I was caught up with what other people thought about me or what others said about me. For years I thought that other people had the most important opinion and that it didn't matter what I saw in myself. People always had so much to say about both what I looked like (stanza one) and what my personality was like (stanza two). But then, through tons of work and self-exploration I learned to not let those things bother me and instead be myself and let the world take me EXACTLY how I am.
