(Laurence's POV)
I trudged through a small park nearby my house, shrugging my bag up my shoulders every so often. I soon reached a small bench where I sat down, and placed my bag beside me, unzipping it carefully. A few revision books spilled out, causing me to sigh in annoyance before picking them up. It was Saturday, and I had nobody to hang out with on these days, not even Kier. Kier always went to a mentoring group on Saturdays, leaving me to be on my own. I always came here by myself, anyway. I got a few strange looks from people around my age, at why it was Saturday and I was spending my days in the park alone doing schoolwork. However, I didn't see schoolwork as a chore, I enjoyed it!I flipped open the first few pages of a textbook I'd been given by school (teachers pet, I know!). Every so often I would scan the text, then rub my eyeliner, push my glasses up the bridge of my nose, then repeat. I wore eyeliner every day, even for school. It just made me...confident about myself in some way. Kier wore eyeliner too, and he was actually the one who encouraged me to wear it. My parents always tell me that only girls wore makeup, and that Kier was just being stupid, but I loved the idea! Plus, neither of my parents never stopped me!
As I reached halfway through the book, I heard a voice call, "Oi, Beveridge!"
I spun round, but there was nobody around."Laurence!" the voice called again. The voice sounded awfully familiar, like Kier's in some way, but I knew it couldn't be him, he was away!
"Laurence, look behind you!" the voice giggled.
I turned round once again and saw a blob of red sat in a tree nearby. Kier?
"Is that you, Kier?" I called, almost certain it was.
"No, Laurence, it's not your best friend with the, quite amazing, red hair!" he answered, sarcastically.
I shook my head at the boy and smiled. He could be so arrogant at times...
"Why are you revising? It's not school." Kier said, looking slightly confused.
"Does it have to be? Why aren't you at the mentoring class?"
Kier shrugged. "Can't be bothered."
"Won't your mum find out?"
"She's at work."
"Shouldn't you still go? Won't they find out?"
"They don't care, really."
I didn't want to argue anymore with Kier, it was almost pointless, he'd always have his way, so I simply closed my textbook and put it back in my bag."You coming up?" Kier asked, patting a space next to him on a branch.
I didn't reply to him as I swung my bag over my bag and went over to the bottom of the tree.
"You're not actually allowed." I pointed out.
"There's no one here, is there? C'mon, Laur!"
"I don't want to!" I whined. Kier pouted at me and did a fake sniffle.
"Pwease? I'm lonely up here!" the red haired boy whined.
"Well I'm lonely down here! Come down to me!"
I always tried to steer Kier into the right direction, to make sure he didn't get told off, an hopefully could become better in attitude and things like that. But instead he always turned me.
"Fine, I'm coming up!" I sighed, giving up.
"That's my Beveridge!"
(Kier's POV)
"I hope we don't get caught up here..." Laurence mumbled, sitting nervously on the edge."Oh, lighten up, Laurence! Nobody gives a damn round here anyway!"
Laurence gasped slightly at me, causing me to chuckle. "We still shouldn't be up here..."
I rolled my eyes at the boy and sighed slightly. Laurence could be really paranoid at times, and sometimes it did get on my nerves a bit.
"What have you been revising then, nerdy boy?"
"Don't call me that..." Laurence muttered.
"Sorry, sorry...what have you been revising for then, Laurence?" I smirked, giggling.
"Just for a maths test on Monday. I want to get a good grade this time..."
"Didn't you get a good grade last time?"
"A B+ isn't what I expected. I need to get at least an A."
"Do you think an E- is a good score?" I asked hopefully.
"Well, you improved from last time! You moved up a grade!"
I hummed in response, starting to get bored of talking about school.
I stood up shakily from the branch and looked up.
"What are you doing, Kier?" Laurence asked, warily.
"Climbing. You coming?"
Laurence shook his head. "I'm staying here."
"Please come, Laur. Look, it's not that far up."
"Kier, I've come up far enough. I shouldn't even be up here."
"Suit yourself!"
I started climbing up, leaving Laurence behind me. I don't know what he was so scared of, he wouldn't get caught up here! I saw a few people staring at me as I climbed, but I didn't care.
"Kier...I want to come down now!" I heard Laurence call.
"Then jump!"
"Are you crazy?! Kier, seriously, we need to get moving!"
I giggled at the boy, then looked down at him. He was looking nervously ahead of him. I looked in the same direction as Laurence, then saw exactly what was going on. A tall man was storming over to where me and Laurence were. We were going to get caught.
"Shit!" I cried, scrambling round the back of the tree. I climbed down a few branches until I felt I could jump. I jumped down and felt the wind crash against my face as I (more or less) flew through the air and landed at the bottom. I watched from the back as the tall man was talking to Laurence. He looked really mad, but I couldn't exactly blame him.
Once Laurence was down, the man said that he needed to have a word about climbing "park property". I couldn't help but laugh at the man's words, but had to become as serious as possible when I walked round.
"Shame on you, Laurence!" I declared.
Laurence looked at me with complete disbelief as the man turned to me.
"You know him?" He asked.
"Well obviously!" I rolled my eyes playfully and smirked, Laurence's face turning bright red as he elbowed me in the ribs to shut me up. It was clear that nobody was in the mood for arguing.
"If either of you ever come back here, there will be consequences. Do you understand?"
"Yes, Laurence, do you understand?" I smirked up at Laurence as he looked down at me, shaking his head.
"Whatever, lets just go."
