(Kier's POV)
Me and Laurence trudged up the small field, stopping every once in a while to catch our breath. It was a very long walk, and a very steep hill. Plus, it didn't help that Laurence had asthma, so we had to keep stopping anyway.
"What do you think the guys will say?" Laurence asked.
"God knows, you know what they're like!"
Laurence nodded in agreement. "Shane'll probably understand."
"Yeah, he's pretty chilled. It's Drew I'm worried about, he'll probably kick off..."
"Probably..."We finally reached the top of the field and students were already flowing out of the doors, over the moon that it was break time.
"Where are you meeting them?" Laurence asked, a slightly worried look on his face.
"Just out here," I pointed ahead to a small bench. "This is where we usually meet up at break."
"Oh...okay..."
"You're not worried to see them, are you?"
Laurence shook his head. "I'm just worried for you..." he lied.
"For me? Fair enough..."
Laurence rolled his eyes, but still looked at me with nerves. I gave him a pat on the shoulder and a reassuring smile. Laurence and the others didn't get on particularly well, he used to (and still does, to be honest) get bullied by them for being a "pathetic nerd" and a "big loser". I saw all past this though, in my eyes Laurence was perfect...I soon saw three figures escape from the building, two tall and one short, which could only be one thing.
"Hey, Kier, you got the cookies for me?" Drew asked as soon as they reached us. Jesus, he sounded like he was asking for drugs or something...
As I reached for the bag of cookies from my backpack, I saw Drew give Laurence a look of disgust.
"What's he doing here?"
Laurence chuckled and folded his arms. "Nice to see you too, Drew."
"Don't get sarky with me, Beveridge."
"Oh please, you sound like my own mother!"
Drew scoffed, but his eyes soon lit up as the cookies were brought out of my bag.
"You are good to me, Kemp!" Drew said, taking the cookies from me and smiling.
"All for you, mate!"
"You'd better share them, Woolnough!" Luke said, beckoning the small boy to give him one of the cookies. Drew groaned, but did as he was told. He then offered one to Shane, but Shane shook his head. Great, this was giving me some time to think what I could say! I just needed to tell them straight; "Guys, me and Laurence are friends again."
It seemed like Laurence had read my mind, as he patted me on the shoulder and raised his eyebrows.
"Eugh, Kier, that loser just touched you!" Drew exclaimed, crossing his fingers dramatically.
I sighed, ignoring his comment. "Guys, I need to tell you something."
The three boys raised their eyebrows at me, and I could see a big smirk plastered across Drew's face.
"What's the smirk for?" I asked, giggling slightly.
"I know what it is!" Drew sang, grinning.
"You do?" I asked, suddenly going all nervous. Damn, how did he already know? Had me and Laurence already been caught?
"You're gay, aren't you?"
Luke and Shane chuckled and a smart expression was right on Drew's face. God, why did he always think this?
"Bloody hell, Drew! No, it's not!" I protested, sighing heavily and folding my arms. Drew chuckled. "Okay, okay! But is it true?"
I rolled my eyes, feeling uncomfortable to answer his question.
"As I was saying-"
"Haha, he is! He just doesn't want to admit it!" Drew interrupted, laughing.
"Jesus christ, Drew, let the guy talk!" Luke exclaimed.
I nodded gratefully to Luke for (finally) shutting the boy up. God, this was going to be hard...
"Anyway erm...what I was saying..." I trailed off, trying to think of a way to say it.
"Me and Laurence," I continued, eventually finding some words. "We talked and..."
"You're friends again?" Luke guessed.
I nodded, biting my lip and looking at Laurence. Laurence gave me a smile and nodded aswell.
That's when I heard Drew imitate a vomit noise, followed by a chuckle.
"You're back with that loser?"
I scoffed at Drew. "He's changed."
Drew chuckled and shook his head slowly. "You're an idiot if you believe that for once second!" He then turned to Laurence and glared. "And if you believe that Kier would ever forgive you, then you'd be wrong, my friend."
Laurence scoffed at the small boy, but left me to talk for him.
"I believe in second chances, you know."
Drew gave me a sarcastic chuckle, then rolled his eyes. "See, you never would have said that if you weren't hanging round with him!"
"Guys can we just quiet down!" Shane suddenly cut in. Drew then turned to Shane and said, "Shut up, Shane, this is nothing to do with you!"
Shane stepped back, a hurt expression on his face. Luke shook his head at Drew and went to comfort Shane. Tough guy, Luke is.
"Kier, listen, I don't want you hanging out with Laurence. He'll turn you into a right loser and that'll bring your reputation right down."
God, Drew sounded like my blooming mum or something. But I could see his point. I turned to Laurence and saw a sad look on his face. I discreetly took his hand, making him flinch slightly. He looked up at me and smiled, however, and this picked up my confidence.
"Drew, I'm sorry, but I'm keeping Laurene." I confirmed. Drew rolled his eyes once again and sighed. He folded and arms and huffed like a small child.
Well, he was small, I suppose.
"Well we'll always be here, Kier." I heard Shane say from behind Drew. He gave me a reassuring smile and Luke nodded.
"Oh you're all pathetic!" Drew sighed, suddenly rushing off, muttering things under his breath.
"I think he's more pathetic than we are." Laurence whispered, making me chuckle. I saw as Shane and Luke nodded in agreement, obviously they had heard Laurence. So what did this mean now? Was I in yet another group of friends, Laurence included? Did Shane and Luke finally accept Laurence? Or perhaps I was just jumping to conclusions...
