I ran out the house in an utter rush, no shoes or anything down the stone cold cobbled path up to the jewelers. I stared awkwardly into the window and saw a beautiful silver ring sat on a plump shiny pillow. It was perfect.
I took a closer look and read the price tag $4570. I loved peeta truly but there was no way in hell I was spending all of our life savings on one little ring of metal.. I wondered solemnly down the street, I was disappointed in myself that I wasn't willing enough to buy the man of my dreams the ring of his dreams. I had to think practical though, I had a masterful plan..
I ran along the roads, now feeling the unevenness of the tar and the free flying stones against my feet. I approached a small metal gate and jumped over it, i was in the meadows now, it was truly wonderful. I walked slowly over to a small growth of wheat and snatched a handful out of the coarse soil. I sat for a moment and listened for the sound of mockingjays, thinking about mine and peetas future. I never much wanted children. Just peeta and me, always and forever..
I wandered home after a while, sneaking back inside the house, it was around 9pm and nobody was home. I knew peeta was up to something but his absence was for sure fortunate as it gave me a small chunk of time to craft and weave a ring out of the stems of the wheat, I grabbed a tea towel and folded it into an envelope sort of shape then filled it with the braids of corn; this created that same sort of ring pillow like the one I saw in the jewelers.
It was well past ten pm now and I felt like I had missed something very important. I wandered over to the kitchen counter where I found a note inscribed on a small delicate piece of cloth
'Come to the pond by the meadow, next to the willow tree at 8:45pm, I will be there. I love you katniss
- yours, p'Oh no. I had missed it.. I had missed something peeta worked so hard to plan.
I ran upstairs and threw on a deep green dress and ran a brush through my hair, I sprayed primrose and rose oil perfume over myself and rushed back down the deep oak stairs, my hands brushing against the smooth spruce wood.I fastened up my boots and shut the door. I ran straight to the pond, over the dainty metal gate, under the big brick bridge, along the muddy path and all the way to the pond. When I reached the destination I saw another peice of cloth:
' right this way darling, I can't wait to see you
-p'I couldn't wait to see him either. I ran helplessly, following the trail of crimson red rose petals up to a trail of hand crafted bees wax candles, they where shaped in letters. I grabbed a slab of hard dirt and a twig to use as a pen and paper, counting the letters as I go.
'K... A... T... ...P... I ... S ...S'Katpiss? I began to question whether it was a joke or not.. but I continued walking
' W.. I.. L.. L...'
'Y..O... V...'
'M.. A... R... E.. Y..'
' M... ...M... M... M... A... Y..'I looked down at the encarved slab which now read 'katpiss, will yov marey mmmmay'
The sentence brought a state of utter confusion to my mind. I was truly befuddled by what it meant.'THE CAKE! OH DEARY ME THE CAKE!'
I looked up to see a forlorn Effie stood in front of me. Sat next to her was a very clearly drunk haymitch. ' Katniss darling you squashed our cake!' I ignored Effie as she tried too rebuild a beautiful latice of cake, peicing back together a fondant statue of a happy couple. A golden haired couple. I however took no notice of this.'Did you enjoy your surprise sweetheart?' Haymitch both bellowed and burped at me.
I nodded at him, but then asked the question about what the note meant. I showed Effie the dirt just in time before she wacked it out of my arms, exclaiming that she doesn't want me to catch rabies. she was very obviously angry with haymitch for messing up the candle work. The muffled capitol accent of Effies was drowned away in my thought track as I sought sight of a campfire in the distance, it spelt words in the sky, 'I love your, real.'
I knew at an instant that was where peeta was, I ran along the mud path, muddying my dress whilst doing so. I was met at the campfire by peeta, sat down on a picnic blanket on his own..
' I thought you weren't coming.' There was pain in his voice.
'I thought you left me katniss, I was worried'
I got down on one knee and held the messy looking handmade ring on its cushioned pillow in my hand.
' I wanted to do something for you aswell peeta.' I whispered to him.He spun round, not lifting his gaze from the floor and pulled out a small velvet box from his trouser pocket. His eyesight still at the floor he carefully opened the box and inside sat a beautiful golden ring with a citrine stone layed In the middle. I was in utter awe. It was exactly like the one I bought prim for her 10th birthday but jsut more, fancy. It wasn't a district 12 material.. maybe that's where he was all day.
'Look up peeta.' My eyes had taken form of shards of glass by this point, watery and delicate, his had done the same. a smile shared itself between the two of us as we symphonized the words 'yes, forever yes.'
I felt whole, I felt complete. I felt wanted.
Peeta slid the ring onto my finger and it fit perfectly where as I had to unweave then reweave his ring to fit his fingers as my complete guess was very wrong. our eyes met. a Willow wedding, our Willow wedding.Effie and haymitch approached us slowly,
' care for a double wedding?' Haymitch offered. He had his arm wrapped tightly around Effie who had her head buried in his chest. Whether he was holding her for affection or balance nobody will know, but it sure did look cute..
