Omegas are considered the lowest of the low in the ranking order, less than even level 0 in the city. They're rare and precious, but treated as nothing because no one wants to be responsible for an Omega that goes on a Rampage. Alphas are the middle, since they are feared by a great many of others, what with their teeth being longer and the chance of them going into a Breakdown. Betas/non are on the top of the heap, being the calmest designation that doesn't have any sort of stage where instinct and anger overwhelm them.

That's why most Omegas are shoved into a special school in order to teach them how to control their anger, just trying to keep them from Rampaging. Alpha's are allowed to go to normal schools, but they do have to be well behaved in order to attend. It is a horrible thing, but nothing the council tries to do fixes it. Not a thing. It takes a director with initiative to make progress. Omegas are still treated horribly, but they can at least go to proper school. Alpha's are allowed to do more, finally a bit more free, while some overall rules are placed and enforced as laws. The first being : Do not mess with the family of an Omega/Alpha, that almost guarantees a Rampage/Breakdown. The next rule is having troubles, but it's starting : Omegas and Alphas are to be treated as equals to Betas and others, because there is only a 10% chance of an Omega, with a 50% chance for Alpha and 40% for Beta. The last one no one has any troubles following : pups are to be cared for by whomever is closest, until their parents/caregivers are found.

Everyone knows the level 5 Espers are all either Omegas or Alphas, not a single Beta, but not every level 5 releases that information. Railgun is known for being an Alpha, while the rank 7 level 5 is an Omega. The 2nd ranked is an Alpha, with the 4th an Omega and 5 being an Alpha. The 6th and 1st ranked level 5 Espers designations are unknown, though there's all kinds of speculation. Some are even rumors, though no one believes most of them.

Accelerator enjoys listening to the speculation, knowing full well that there are maybe 7 people who know his designation. Last Order, Yomikawa, Yoshikawa and the doc are 4 of them. The rest are researchers who are either dead or have fled and hidden. Accelerator had been on suppressants - available to all designations - for nearly 6 years, everything blocked by them. There's no scent from him, nothing to give him away, at least not until he feels like revealing it. The only reason the people he lives with know is because the doc had told them while he was out after his surgery.

Living with them is no different, though he's noticed whines and chirps aimed at him a few times, trying to get any information about how in tune he is with his designation. Yomikawa's whines are the ones Alphas do when they request cuddles, while Yoshikawa's chirps are a Betas way of asking for comfort. Last Order has been doing all kinds of things - coos, yips, whimpers, pouts - as she is a pup and wants attention. He rarely indulges his designation, letting out the occasional coo or chirp in response to one of the others, enjoying the looks on their faces when he does.

It's a planned attack and a horrible case of wrong place, wrong time that let's Accelerator's designation known to the entire city. It's some big announcement meaning - it's being broadcast live - for Omega rights since people still refuse to accept that law, and some level 0's decided it would be a good day to beat up those considered lower than them, since they refuse to be shoved to the bottom of the food chain again. Accelerator and Last Order happen to be nearby, heading for a restaurant to get some lunch, Yomikawa and Yoshikawa already waiting for them, when an explosion rocks the area, a shockwave sending everyone flying. Accelerator manages to grab Last Order, pulling her to his chest as they hit the ground and roll.

Hitting the ground hurts, especially as they skid, Last Order falling from his grip as the impact has his arms loosening on instinct, both trying to keep injury to a minimum.
