Soulbond

Soulbonds are a private thing, only the basic information everyone needs to know is shared. Soulbonds are almost always family orientated, though there are rare lover bonds as well. The Soulbond is something the world gave to them so they would have hope at even the darkest times, that there are people out there somewhere waiting for them. The only way to know who you're bound to is to touch them, upon which you can finally feel complete. There is no known way to figure out who's going to be bound to someone else, it just happens. It's possible to be bound to people you have just met and as such, the most common way to greet someone is often a handshake or a casual nudge against the arm.

The Soulbound also let's you feel the emotions of the others, and if you are bonded to an Esper, any number of things could happen, with the most frequent one being the others becomes Espers if they weren't already, or they become a stronger one, going anywhere from 2 to 3 ranks higher. Rarely, very rarely does a person Bound to an Esper get a portion of their power, but that's only because the kind of bond that requires is one of complete trust and love, with no doubt or other such feelings in the bond, it let's the powers transfer, just the slightest bit.

Accelerator has never felt complete, has never known the warmth of another person, and is rarely approached by people that actually want to meet him. His power means most people don't even bother, so the only human touch he's ever experienced is the damn researchers, which thank god he had never bonded with any of them. He has a feeling - if only because of the warmth in his chest and the fact that they manage to get along - that Yomikawa might be one of his, but she's always wearing gloves or something, never touches him directly with her hand, so he's not certain. He also feels something every time he touches a clone, not a bond but almost like one is connected to them, so he tries to be as gentle as possible while still fitting the laboratory's idea of what he's like.

He's a gentle soul they had nearly managed to break and probably would have too, if Yomikawa and he had not met before he broke. She had been a new person, just getting settled in and had immediately noticed how well she got along with the target of the experiment, which rather than treating him as a specimen or monster, she treats him like a kid his age, which always leaves him adorably flustered and confused, since no one had ever really treated him his age.

But meeting her meant they had not been able to break Accelerator's soul, and so while he acts like he broke and kills the Sisters - regret, guilt and horror builds with each kill added - he makes sure he does so in as quick and nice a way as possible, always kissing their foreheads and giving a barely their hug before he kills them, making sure he's looking them in the eye when he does it. (He has no way of knowing one of his Soulbound is on the other side and yet he treats them gently, something she will always remember and be grateful for.)

It's as they're getting further into the experiment, just starting into the 10,000's and all the killing settling heavily on Accelerator's shoulders, something not even Yomikawa can completely absolve him of, that he makes his first connection by accident. This stupid fuckin level 0 had decided to be a hero and now he has to kill him or the damn researchers will capture him in order to do experiments, with death being the more merciful of the two. He tries to ignore his feelings during the times when he has to kill, so he doesn't notice the warmth in his chest until it explodes, turning into an ocean, like a piece of his soul has slotted into place, comforting him in a way he rarely gets, though he hides the shock well.

Touma does not, but luckily Accelerator's body hides him from all the cameras. He had never expected to find his Soulbond, let alone in a place like this, but there's no mistaking the protective feeling, like a mama bear ready to go at any one who tries to hurt him. He's already Bound to Mikoto - storm clouds gathered in the sky, ready to strike down anyone that gets through - as well as Index - a small ball of light, always offering comfort and another presence - so this one is more a surprise from who it is and the emotions flowing into him right now.
