Everyone in Academy city has wings. Well, most everyone. There are all different kinds of wings, no two people having the same ones. Wings are not capable of being hidden, once they grow in - which is painful and most people are sedated for it - they are there to stay, with no other options. Which is why laws were made. People with wings are allowed to fly, but they must stay to a certain altitude for their own safety, and wings must not be bound. Wing selling is illegal, but there have been a few broken rings, a new one popping up every few years.

Espers are not allowed to target and hurt another person's wings, in battle or not, and any wing that is destroyed in battle will be compensated for, whether with a prosthetic wing or with care for the area on the back where the appendage was attached. Not every person has wings. Most do, but for those unfortunate few that are caught, they're either torn off and sold, or ripped off so they aren't infecting the specimen. Of course, the city pretends to care for these people, but the experiments have been given permission to remove wings.

That is to say, there's a reason Accelerator doesn't have wings. Even the Sisters have wings, each different from the last - which is how most people tell them apart - though he can tell just by looking at their face, since he's connected to them through the network. Plus, he killed 10,031 of them in different ways each time. There's no reason for him to not be able to identify the remaining 10,000 by a single look or stray thought.

But yes, Accelerator does not have wings. He can recall pretty clearly the day his wings grew in - he doesn't remember the color or what they looked like, but he recalls they were big - since it was also the day they were torn out. He remembers since that was the most pain he's ever felt. After all, wings are pretty sensitive even after you've had them for years, but the week after you first get them, is when the receptors, nerves and everything are ramped to a 5 or so, body adjusting and creating pathways so the wings work. The scientists refused to have an infected specimen and so, they had removed the wings.

They had strapped him stomach down to a table, drugged him to the gills so he couldn't struggle, and then sliced his back open, tearing the wings out and then plucking as many of the roots free as they could get, refusing to let the things regrow if they could. The pain had never completely faded, just a dull ache in his back most days, but for some reason, it had started to grow the last few days. Yomikawa had noticed, if the way her silver wings fluttered every time he shifted with a grumble of pain meant anything, and Yoshikawa was trying her best to figure out what was happening, her gray wings twitching every time he grunts in pain. Last Order is careful around his back now, refusing to jump on him from behind after she almost caused him to black out when her weight increased the pain.

Her small, little golden yellow wings flutter and flap every time he shies away from someone touching his back, her worry growing as the pain and sensitivity grow. Finally, they've all had enough and sit him down, Last Order gently cuddling him from behind, making sure her head isn't touching anywhere near his upper back, tiny wings and arms wrapped around his waist, legs resting to his side. The two women in charge of watching them look him over, tired of seeing him in pain.

He's paler than usual, bags under his eyes speak of sleep stolen by pain and he's been much quieter, sweat on his brow speaking of his pain that he refuses to verbalize.

"Are you really ok?"

"Yeah. This hasn't happened often, but when it did it was almost always a week of agony before it left. I swear, it's fine, now leave me alone, you fuckers."

"No, Misaka Misaka declares, refusing to let you go."

"Why not, ya brat?"

"It's already been more than a week and you're still in pain,Misaka thinks you know what is going on and are refusing to tell us,Misaka Misaka states, sad you don't trust us to help when you are in pain."
