3rd pov

Accelerator races through the trees, ignoring the sounds of pursuit behind him as best he can, though he won't lie that the pup in his mouth is just the slightest bit slowing him down. He refuses to leave her behind though, her beautiful brown pelt smooth and soft as all pup fur is, not with her young age and her last relative having been sent off recently. He hates the pack he'd be forced to join, but he'd had no reason or chance to escape until now.

He moves faster as a wolf than human so he refuses to change forms, even as his back right leg gives him problems, the bone having been broken when he was young and never properly fixed, causing him pain with every step, pain he ignores in favor of living. If the Hunters following them catch up, they'll drag them before the Alpha and the Warriors, where they'll likely be sentenced to either death or be breeding slaves, since wolves are intersex in order to keep the population going, no secondary dynamics to worry about. It's a good thing most wolves stop aging young, Accelerator having stopped at the age of 17.

Accelerator had lived with the Dark pack for 45 long, painful years, but the last straw had finally come. They planned to let this pup die, just because she is different and he refuses to let that happen, so he's fleeing, even if the color of his pelt means he has an extremely tough time blending into the woods and shadows. He barely dodges a pair of claws, trying to force himself faster, knowing that once he crosses the river up ahead he'll be in the territory of another smaller pack, one that might take the pup in, if not him.

He rumbles reassuringly to the pup when it lets out a small whine, no more than a few years old, maybe 10 or so? She won't get any real size or weight to her unless she starts eating more, which won't happen in the Dark pack. The river is in sight, but he can also see several shadows moving a bit faster than him, racing to block off the river from him, refusing to let him get away, since no one has ever escaped the Dark pack and lived to tell about it. He manages to get to the halfway point in the river, technically still in Dark area, when he's finally hit, claws tearing through his flank. He flinches and the pain slows him, long enough for another to bite into his leg and almost tear him off his feet. In the struggle, Accelerator gets a foolish idea, one that might get him killed, but at least the pup will get a chance to live and grow, to have a happy life the way he never did. He rips himself free from the holds - ignoring the pain from having flesh torn from him, blood staining the river that really only covers his paws - and tosses the pup onto the shore, ignoring the way his heart clenches as she yelps in pain.

Knowing he's only got seconds, he tips his head back and howls for help, telling the other pack of a pup near the river, before teeth sink into his scruff, yanking him back and off his feet. He growls, puts up as much of a fight as he can, but there's only so much even he can do against 7 other wolves. Several of them are injured, blood splattering the stones around the shore, but Accelerator is clearly the loser, laying on his side and bleeding out. One of them had gotten a lucky shot in while he was tearing another's throat out and he is bleeding out from a chest wound.

The Hunters huff, obviously not caring they had killed the target instead of capturing and decide to leave his body, no use bringing worthless meat back. However, the pup - in human form, what is she thinking? - crosses back over the river, crying for the wolf that had helped her escape, tiny hands reaching for him knowing she can't cross the river or she'll be killed too. Hands pick the pup up - thank god, the other pack took the chance - and she's pulled away, taken into the forest across the way.

Then, to his surprise, even as his vision is fading into black, he sees several lupine forms slink from the shadows of the forest and hears them cross the water, challenging the Hunters that had torn him apart, the sounds of barking, snarls and blood hitting the ground the last thing he hears, gentle teeth digging into his fur the last thing he feels. He's not expecting to wake up, let alone in a nice cave with a blanket covering him. He goes to sit up and regrets it, his chest lighting on fire at the simple movement, a pained moan escaping, his arm giving out from under him.
