Chapter Fifty - Conspiracy

I sat nursing my coffee the next morning, thinking about everything. I smelled a rat and a conspiracy. Neither settled me and I was determined to figure it out.

"Oh no I know that face." Dan commented

"What face?" I wonder not looking up to him

"The I'm gonna kill an outsider who hurts my family face, you had it when that woman pretending to be you mother was here."

"It's Serena's father. He's up to something and in the fall out could be our families, minus Serena I couldn't give a shit about her at the moment" I finally look up.

"How about you stay out of it and let everyone else fight their own battles for once?"

"To late. I already railroaded Mr van der Woodsers attempt to live in the same building. What is going on in your life. I've been so busy. I'm sorry."

"Umm, Vanessa got an internship with CNN to work in Hati."

"Wow."

"I know, she was thinking about not taking it, but I told her to take it. It's a great opportunity for her." I grab his hand and squeeze it. my phone starts ringing

"I need to change my number. Hello Chuck."

"Sister, ready to help me come out of hiding?" I sit up straighter "i'm going to the gala at Columbia."

"Are you now?" I raise my eyebrows "Well I'd be honoured and I know Mom would love that to, I have so much to catch you up on. I'll see you later." I hung up

"So your brother emerges from his stooper. Great."

"Dan." I light scold.

I walk arm in arm with my brother at he Columbia gala. I saw Lily coming over, she looked pleased to see the two of us but I figured that it was more Chuck than myself.

"I'll give you two a moment." I walk over to Nate, Blair and Serena

"Serena, how is your fathers house hunting going?" I smile

"Not that you care, but he didn't get it."

"I know that was a rhetorical question. i did." I beam and pulled out the folded documents from my purse "I picked these up on my way here, another Bass family estate holding."

"But Rufus admitted he gave a bad recommendation"

"He did, but that was after I bought it outright promising a bank transfer within 24 hours. Have fun with being a bitch. Nathaniel, Blair." I kiss Blair's cheek i went to leave when Serena grabbed my arm.

"Why would you do that."

"Didn't you know? It's a game I started playing called Team Rufus. It's a hoot, the sooner he cures mom the sooner he does one cause let's face it he's hardly the most reliable person in the world. Have fun." I snatch my arm away and head back to my brothers as Lily left.

"You look like your enjoying yourself."

"I am. I forgot how much I love being in a war with Serena. i get's the adrenaline running. I'm freaking hyped"

I leaned against my brother as the dirtbag was being awarded. We saw Jenny and walked over she turned to us.

"Lily looks amazing doesn't she? Being sick hasn't slowed her down at all." Jenny commented

"Yeah, she's the picture of health." Chuck replied. We clawed as the dirtbag was announced and came up on stage

"Thank you, thank you." he paused "I had another speech prepared for you this evening but then my beautiful daughter Serena came to me. And she was honest ad brave that it made me realise I need to be honest and brave too. i made many personal sacrifices to be a doctor. but I never quite realised until now that the great sacrifice of all was my family. So the most important thing that I can say here tonight is not to all of you but to them. I made the biggest mistake of my life walking out on you. And I promise to do everything in my power to make it up to you to make it right again. Because I love you."

"Oh he crazy. I'm going home." I kiss Jenny's check and go to grab my stuff

I was reading when the garage door lifted up between our room and Jenny's

"Hey, Jen."

"I need to talk with you. It's about Lily." she came over and I put my book down. I tap beside me and she it down.

"Obviously I'm not a doctor and it's kind of a long story how I know this. But there's something weird about her medicine."
