Ronit

I have forgotten why I was so angry once I saw the first bullet make contact with the wall behind me. And now in the hospital, we are surrounded by doctors and police and of course, Harsh, being probed both physically and mentally as well.

I don't know whether to call it fortunate or unfortunate that I am now also in presence of my mother, my brother, and Riya. My mother was glaring at Anvi. As if Anvi was responsible for all this. She was dead set against us leaving our apartment. And now if I think back, I only wish I had listened to what she had to say. I wish I would have listened and not just rushed her there.

"I am fine, take care of my wife," I told the doctor. "Some wife you have, always putting you in danger. Always making a mess out of everything." I looked at my mother. "Well mom it is not her fault that trouble follows her around, is it?" I asked her.

"Unfortunately, she is supposed to be around you when it happens Ronit, why cannot you marry someone who was safe? I wouldn't have to worry about your wellbeing constantly." Not happening mother. I love Anvi and no matter how dangerous she is or how dangerous the circumstances are being around her. I cannot leave her in this alone. She is my responsibility. I wasn't able to do anything then but now, I can. And I will whether you like it or not.

"I am happy, isn't it enough for you mother?" I asked irritated. I don't like anyone questioning my judgment unless it is the right person to do so at the right time. At this time, it is Anvi, she isn't judging me, then no one else should do that for her.

"Unfortunately, this time the bullet wasn't meant for Anvi, it was meant for you." Alright, more bad news. What else do I want to go wrong today? "How do you know that?" I asked Harsh. "We caught one man and he blurted out, that it was who was supposed to die, Anvi would have been collateral. if by any luck she wouldn't die, she would have faced a fate worse than death." I don't want to hear more.

"Then he should be the one who should leave my daughter alone." I shouldn't have asked what else can go wrong because from that point nothing actually goes right anyway. "Yes, I think that is going to be well for both of them, that they do not stay together." Who are you to decide that?

"It is my life and Anvi's and the last time I checked we were both consenting adults so, I suggest you all stay out of our decisions. I and Anvi can decide for ourselves." I told them. They both were taken aback. "Ronit I am your mother I know what..." I raised her hand to stop her from speaking. "Apparently you only think you do but it is a truth only in your mind." I turned around and walked inside the cabin where Anvi was. "Are you alright?" She asked.

"Not a scratch Pari, but of course, you can check it yourself once you are discharged," She blushed. But then her expression changed into a guilty one. "I am sorry, I didn't kiss him back I didn't mean to hurt you. I am sorry, Ronit I am so sorry." She kept blabbering constantly. "Stop right now." She did stop immediately looking at me tensed still.

"You are right Pari, I am angry and I will not forgive you for this." Her face fell. "I...I understand" she said not raising her voice. "Did I tell you to talk?" She shook her head. "Then why are you talking still?" She said nothing this time. "As I was saying, I am angry but you can do something to amend this." She looked at me with hopeful eyes.

"You have to marry me ritualistically and we will have a destination wedding in a hill area, no questions asked there, or a place where it is cold, so we can expect a little snowfall, or..." "Rajasthan, I wish to be wed like a princess." I smiled. "Of course, shehzaadi, you are our shehzaadi anyway," I said and winked. She knew I was joking then. But I wasn't joking about the wedding. I sat down beside her. And she started to play with my fingers.
