Ronit
I looked at my mother. She was determined to do something and when she is determined, it is usually bad for both of us. This time it is three of us. She looked at the reporters who were held by the guards. "Mrs. Bajaj, do you want to comment on the shameless act of your son?" I wanted to kill him. How it is shameless to want to come and check on the girl who was your friend and was attacked a few days ago?
"Mrs. Bajaj did you knew that your son is hiding a mistress in his apartment?" I felt Anvi stiffen beside me. And I moved closer to her on instinct. I needed to shield her from oncoming media knowing that she already been through enough. "Mr. Bajaj, what are your comments on this? Do you not feel shameful coming here in the middle of the night and..."? "Don't you guys have anything better to do than always get into someone's personal life?" Said I getting irritated.
"Mr. Ronit, you cannot avoid us. It is our right..." I pushed him away when they tried to touch me. But what I failed to notice was how Anvi was backed into the corner by the press. When I notice she was surrounded and they were asking her question that is shameful for any girl to hear ever in their life. I walked towards her pressing the press away in the process I shoved the reporter and got hit in return. But I managed to reach her.
"Mrs. Bajaj, Mrs. Bajaj." They called. "You want to know who that person is with my son?" I know my mother's mind is working and I know nothing she will do can benefit anyone else other than herself. "Mrs. Bajaj, who is the girl with your son?" She looked at the reporter. "She is my future daughter-in-law. In fact, they are to be married in few days." The floor vanished from under my floor.
"Mother..." She looked at me sharply. "See my son works overseas for the last few years now, but he was engaged way before. Last night my son returned and learned about the attack that happened recently on her. It was on her graduation day. My daughter-in-law is frightened enough, you are causing her distress." She claimed. Her profession is lying. She is one mastermind in art.
"It was on instinct my son came to see his to-be wife after learning of the attack. What you like to do stand here and blame for checking on the woman he loves?" She is going too far now. "Or are you going to help us find who were they?" She looked at them and all looked ashamed. They should be. My mother is right, her captors needed to be brought to justice.
We all ended up at our house and Anvi looked at most of her surroundings. But she has hurt yet again. My phone, which I have very effectively destroyed was now making me wonder what I am going to do. My mother, I need to talk to her and immediately before she makes me go through it. "Mother" She looked at me and picked the phone down. "Ronit, we are going to go through the registry tomorrow," It is not a suggestion it is a command.
"Mother please listen to me. I am..." Her phone rang and she picked it up and that was the end of it all. End of the conversation. I hung my head low and walked away. What more I could have done? At this moment she is not going to listen to me, not for anything. I saw Neev was consoling her. I need consoling too. Has anyone wondered that? "Drink some water, you are badly hurt." He was telling the person the reason for all this. All of this would have not happened if she wasn't here. She wasn't here and Neev would have never ever sent me there.
She looked at me and then back at her bottle. "I will go and talk to your mother about all this." She stood up and proceeded towards where my mother was sitting. "It is of no use. If you think she will let you do what you want to then, you are very wrong." She didn't look at me. "Let me try once Mr. Bajaj maybe I can actually reason with her." I know she cannot. No one can. She plays everyone around as she wants to. And now it had reached the only happiness that I have found in my life.
I looked around and saw Neev. "can I borrow your phone?" I asked. He lent it to me absentminded. Looks like he too is disturbed by this news. Now she is also playing with my brother's emotions. How it even fair? "Brother," he said suddenly when I put the last digit in the dial pad. "Not now Neev" I used the harsh tone as before. But I really needed to call Tanvi. If she knew from anyone else, it will be the end of us.
