Ronit

"Ronit, it is not true. I have nothing to do with this, I promise you. I have nothing to do with this murder." She said almost crying. I was numb, how could she do that? How could she be this cold? Killing Avni's father because he did what? Saw his best friend get murdered? That is not something you do unless you have a very cold heart. And about my dad? Why you did do that?

I pulled away from her and looked at Anvi and Neev. Anvi looked distorted and Neev? I cannot even describe the expression on his face. Shock, disgust, resentment? Maybe all of it combined? "Neev beta, you believe me don't you?" She asked him trying to touch him. But he too moved away.

"Why ma? Why you did do it with him? Why do you make my Shehzaadi suffer like this?" He asked. "Neev, I didn't..." She sounded defeated. Then she turned towards Anvi. "At least you believe me, don't you? You do know I will never ever do anything to your father." Neev stood in front of her covering Anvi from her gaze.

"You have done enough already; we do not need you to do anything else further," Neev said not showing how hurt he was now. I knew she had done bad things but she had to for us. This is not what I ever expected her to do. I mean manipulating someone is one thing and killing someone? I don't know if that is as easy as manipulation. But if he did find her calling him on the phone the day he was murdered. Must be something, it must be something.

"Take her away, do everything in your power to find out what she had done. And if she is proven guilty, then I want you to get the maximum sentence you can" And these are not my words. These were Neev's. I was still trying t to recover from my initial shock. "Sure Mr. Bajaj, after all, it aligns all our interests to find out if she was the one responsible for the events that had taken place and changed all our lives. I have been affected badly because of this." Harsh said looking at Anvi.

"Harsh" Anvi said finally. "Do not cuff her." My mother looked at Anvi, then started to blame her. "You destroyed what I have built. You destroyed my family. I gave you shelter and save you from impending disaster and what you did do? You have left me with nothing. I lost everything because of you. I have lost my sons, and now I am being blamed for the crime I didn't commit. All because of you. You, you destroy everything you touch...."

"Take her away, please Mr. Rathore, I do not wish for her to insult my wife more than she already has," I said to him. "I would love to, and you have to accompany us as well. Because of the circumstances, you all have to give statements. For now, she would be kept in a safe house where you all be led to."

"I am ready to go wherever you need me to, but please keep my wife and brother out of it." I requested him. "Alright then, but since Anvi is the one involved she has to do it sooner or later. I will take your mother in and then I will personally take both of you to the safe house. As in, for now, Anvi is the witness, and news of your mother's arrest can be troubling for her accomplishes." With that said he left. I sat down on the sofa with my hands over my head.

How could I be a fool? How haven't I seen the signs? And what he was talking about my mother having accomplished? More than one? How long she had been planning this for? How long has this all been going on? Was she involved in more? Was my mother's death natural or did she has something to do with that as well? I wonder how many secrets she is hiding away from me.

I felt someone's hand on my shoulder. "I am sorry you have to endure all this. I never knew she was this vindictive towards father." I ruffled Neev's hair. "It's alright Neev, a child will never believe that his mother can do wrong. No child has to suffer at their parents' hands like you have to Neev." He chuckled. "But I have that parent Ronit, I always had that. I have a big brother, who was both my mother and father to me. But he never got to have that in his life. I am ashamed I never ever saw that coming. I am ashamed that I never ever thought about you ever for even once."
