Chapter 6 : Choices
Slowly, the week went on uneventfully. Logan Masters continued to drop Esmeralda Saunders off at school, and at the end of the day he would pick her up and drove her home.
He hadn't bothered visiting her again, knowing she was not fully comfortable, so all together they spent about an half hour each day in each others company.
Good for her.
Not so good for him.
As a result this Sunday was 'his day'.
Esmeralda got to spend the whole day with the hard-headed, jerky, stupid, mean werewolf. And she was not looking forward to it.
Why can't he leave me alone? Could he not understand that I wanted noth-
“Elle!”
Esmeralda was jolted out of her thoughts of him, and noticed a hand waving in front of my face. Following the arm attached to the hand, she found Drew's annoyed expression. “Good! Your back from la la land.”
Giving him an apologetic look, she apologized, “I'm sorry, Drew.
“It's fine.” He shrugged, “but, I'd like to get back to our project. You are the one making me work on it on a Saturday.”
“Sure thing.” She smiled. “But, I only suggested it.”
“Yes, yes, I know, I'm the idiot who agreed. Anyway, did you find anything about how and when it started?”
“Um, yup!” She leaned in closer to her laptop screen, “June the 23rd 1908.”
“'Kay,” He jotted it down, as she continued reading through. “Um, it says a week before the war started, most of the supernatural species formed an alliance, led by the demon Axel and announced to the humans that they existed.”
“Oh! Well, she's busy right now, but I suppose you could come in.” Emily's voice drifted through the house and Esmeralda listened as footsteps made their way closer to kitchen. Please, oh, please, no.
“Elle! Logan's here! Isn't that nice?” Her mom smiled as she came in, Logan following from behind.
“Yeah! Fantastic!” Not! “But, I'm busy now. . . what a shame. I guess he'll have to came back later. Perhaps tomorrow? When we're supposed to hang out. And I might be. . . well, busy? Tonight.”
“Busy? What for?” Emily asked, turning on the kettle. “Would you like some coffee dear?” She asked Logan.
“Yes, please, ma'am.” Logan answered politely and Esmeralda rolled her eyes.
“Oh, call me Emily, dear. Now what's this about being busy?”
“Well. . . you see, Ian, you know Ian Glass? He's having this party tonight and -”
“Since when did you go to these 'parties'?”
“I don't, I know. But, you see Drew asked me and Cara and Adam really want to go . . . So. . .”
“Is this really a good idea, Emily? I mean, what if something happens.” Logan butted in before Emily could say anything.
“Well, I wasn't particularly asking for your opinion.” Esmeralda muttered, and didn't notice how Logan smirked in her direction as she continued to read and pointed to something on the screen for Drew to copy out.
“He has a point, sweetie.”
“Mom! You don't agree with the enemy!”
“He's no enemy, Emerald!” Esmeralda cringed at the name she used and turned her head slightly away. “Sweetie, I didn't mean to.” Elle nodded, silently. “You have got to let go of this . . .hat-”
