Chapter 11 : Saudade

Tuesday was. . . Tuesday. Boring. Old. Unexciting.

Wednesday was the same as Tuesday.

And Thursday nothing seemed to go right for Esmeralda. She slept in. Barely made it to class. Forgot money for lunch. And to top it off had to start over her English paper.

Then later that night she got a text message from Logan, who apologized for not being there after school, because he wasn't able to get back, so he would not be back until Saturday.

And Friday, was surprisingly worse.

The drama all started with Blake Maine asking for help with his math assignment that was due that day, last class. Continuing with Esmeralda getting a C on her math test, and Blake's girlfriend, Claire, seeing them laughing and talking in the hallway after math.

And finally, plummeting into disaster when she decided to call Esmeralda a bitch, slut and whore and dump her food all over her at lunch. Which ended in her telling Esmeralda to stick to one guy – which was stupid cause she's not even seeing anyone, nor has she ever kissed a guy.

Resulting into the most embarrassing and worst week of her unfortunate life.

Friday after school, Esmeralda logged into Facebook thinking about her week and noticed that she had a friend request.

Logan Masters

Without being able to stop it, a smile formed on her lips and she slowly accepted the request.

Esmeralda found herself thinking about him and some of the times they had spent together. She imagined his captivating amber eyes and his - despite arrogant and cocky – cute smile.

Sighing out load, she came to the conclusion that her week definitely wouldn't have sucked if he had been there. She knew it was true, even though she wished it wasn't.

He would have made everything just a mere thought in the back of her mind, instantly making her forget everything.

She wanted – no, she needed him here right there, right now. To make her laugh and smile, and take her mind off of everything in her life.

But, that was ridiculous, not that long ago I didn't want him around.

“Sweetie?” Her mother's voice interrupted her thoughts and she looked up in time to see her open the door. Emily smiled gently at her daughter, “Hi, how are you?”

“Fine, mom.”

Esmeralda noticed how Emily's gaze shifted from her to her laptop on the desk where Logan's profile was up.

“Miss him?”

“Of course not.”

“Its understandable, Elle.”

“I feel -” She paused trying to find the right words. “I feel like somethings missing. Like this week wouldn't have been so crappy if he had been here. I feel safe with him, mom, like I belong and can be myself. I feel like everything is right and okay with him. And I don't want to feel that.” Her mom nodded in an understanding way. “He said werewolves don't mate with other species, just other werewolves. But aunt Elise is human.”

Emily looked away and replied in a somewhat guilty voice, “I don't know sweetheart.”

“What is it?”

“Nothing.”

“Mom if you know something. . .”

“Its nothing, baby. Just our family has been known to be mated to werewolves, is all. There are a few records of werewolf's having human's for mates. It's part of the reason they revealed themselves to humans.” She stood up and walked over to the door, “You take a nap, might make you feel better. And remember 'You don't realize what you have until it's gone'” She smiled, before she left.
